Green synthesis of sulfonated cellulose/polyether block amide/polyethylene glycol diacrylate (SC/PEBAX/PEGDA) composite membrane by gamma radiation and sulfonation techniques for battery application
Int J Biol Macromol. 2023 Jul 14:125844. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2023.125844. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSulfonated cellulose (SC) was successfully prepared through a two-step process of gamma radiation and subsequently sulfonation with potassium metabisulfite of microcrystalline cellulose extracted from sugarcane bagasse. The effect of gamma radiation dose on cellulose showed an increment of oxidation degree, which was evidenced by the intensity ratio of I1718 (carbonyl)/ I2892 (aliphatic) from FTIR analysis. The obtained SC was introduced into polyether block amide/polyethylene glycol diacrylate (PEBAX/PEGDA) polymer ...

Hyperoside Nanomicelles Alleviate Atherosclerosis by Modulating the Lipid Profile and Intestinal Flora Structure in High-Fat-Diet-Fed Apolipoprotein-E-Deficient Mice
Molecules. 2023 Jun 29;28(13):5088. doi: 10.3390/molecules28135088.ABSTRACTAtherosclerosis (AS) is a serious threat to human health and the main pathological basis of cardiovascular disease. Hyperoside (Hyp), a flavonoid found mainly in traditional Chinese herbs, can exert antitumor, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and cardiovascular-protective effects. Herein, we prepared hybrid nanomicelles (HFT) comprising Hyp loaded into pluronic F-127 and polyethylene glycol 1000 vitamin E succinate and assessed their effects on AS. To establish an AS model, apolipoprotein-E-deficient (ApoE-/-) mice were fed a high-fat diet. We then a...

Closed-loop Recycling of Vinylogous Urethane Vitrimers
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2023 Jul 13:e202306188. doi: 10.1002/anie.202306188. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDevising energy-efficient strategies for the depolymerization of plastics and the recovery of their structural components in high yield and purity is key to a circular plastics economy. Here, we report a case study in which we demonstrate that vinylogous urethane (VU) vitrimers synthesized from bis-polyethylene glycol acetoacetates (aPEG) and tris(2-aminoethyl)amine can be degraded by water at moderate temperature with almost quantitative recovery (~98%) of aPEG. The rate of depolymerization can be controlled by the t...

Polyethylene glycol modified graphene oxide-silver nanoparticles nanocomposite as a novel antibacterial material with high stability and activity
Colloids Surf B Biointerfaces. 2023 Jun 30;229:113435. doi: 10.1016/j.colsurfb.2023.113435. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTInorganic antibacterial nanomaterials play an increasingly important role in addressing the growing threat of drug-resistant bacteria. Graphene oxide-silver nanoparticles composite (GO-AgNPs), as a kind of inorganic nanomaterials, have excellent antibacterial properties, showing promising potential in biomedical field. However, GO-AgNPs are terribly prone to sedimentation due to aggregation in physiological solutions, along with its non-environmental issues during the synthesis process, seriously limits...

Development of κ-carrageenan-PEG/lecithin bioactive hydrogel membranes for antibacterial adhesion and painless detachment
Int J Biol Macromol. 2023 Jul 10:125789. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2023.125789. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe issue of wound dressing adherence poses a substantial challenge in the field of wound care, with implications both clinically and economically. Overcoming this challenge requires the development of a hydrogel dressing that enables painless removal without causing any secondary damage. However, addressing this issue still remains a significant challenge that requires attention and further exploration. The present study is focused on the synthesis of hydrogel membranes based on κ-carrageenan (CG), polyethylene gly...

A Case of Pseudoelevation of Prostate Specific Antigen Level
CONCLUSIONS: When the patient's PSA level is abnormally elevated, which is not consistent with the clinical diagnosis, we should consider immunological interference in PSA assays. Pretreatment with PEG may be an economical, simple, and feasible scheme for removing interference.PMID:37436390 | DOI:10.7754/Clin.Lab.2023.230107

Collagen from Iris squid grafted with polyethylene glycol and collagen peptides promote the proliferation of fibroblast through PI3K/AKT and Ras/RAF/MAPK signaling pathways
Int J Biol Macromol. 2023 Jul 8:125772. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2023.125772. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCollagens from marine sources have been used widely in food, cosmetics and tissue engineering application due to their excellent functional and biological properties. In the present study, a novel protein, collagen from iris squid skin (SSC) was characterized, grafted with polyethylene-glycol (PEG) and Acid-Green 20 (AG) and was investigated the molecular signaling pathways in L-929 fibroblast cells. SDS-PAGE and IR spectrum of SSC analysis showed the typical structure of type I collagen. The fibroblast proliferation ...

Sandwich Fibrous PEG Encapsulations for Thermal Energy Storage
Chemphyschem. 2023 Jul 10:e202300234. doi: 10.1002/cphc.202300234. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPhase change materials (PCMs) textiles have been developed for personal thermal management (PTM) while limited loading amount of PCMs in textiles reduced thermal buffering effect. In this work, we firstly prepared a sandwich fibrous encapsulation to store polyethylene glycol (PEG) with PEG loading amount of 45 wt%, which consisted of polyester (PET) fabrics with hydrophobic coating as protection layers, polyurethane (PU) nanofibrous membranes as barrier layers and PEG-loaded viscose fabric as a PCM-loaded layer. The leakage was...

Nebulization of PEGylated recombinant human deoxyribonuclease I using vibrating membrane nebulizers: A technical feasibility study
In this study, the effects of PEGylation on the thermodynamic stability of rhDNase was investigated, using linear 20 kDa, linear 30 kDa and 2-armed 40 kDa PEGs. The suitability of PEG30-rhDNase to electrohydrodynamic atomization (electrospraying) as well as the feasibility of using two vibrating mesh nebulizers, the optimized eFlow® Technology nebulizer (eFlow) and Innospire Go, at varying protein concentrations were investigated. PEGylation was shown to destabilize rhDNase upon chemical-induced denaturation and ethanol exposure. Yet, PEG30-rhDNase was stable enough to withstand aerosolization stresses using the eFlow and...
