The interplay between PEGylated nanoparticles and blood immune system
Adv Drug Deliv Rev. 2023 Aug 2;200:115044. doi: 10.1016/j.addr.2023.115044. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDuring the last two decades, an increasing number of reports have pointed out that the immunogenicity of polyethylene glycol (PEG) may trigger accelerated blood clearance (ABC) and hypersensitivity reaction (HSR) to PEGylated nanoparticles, which could make PEG modification counterproductive. These phenomena would be detrimental to the efficacy of the load and even life-threatening to patients. Consequently, further elucidation of the interplay between PEGylated nanoparticles and the blood immune system will be benefic...

Application of thermoresponsive smart polymers based in situ gel as a novel carrier for tumor targeting
Curr Cancer Drug Targets. 2023 Aug 3. doi: 10.2174/1568009623666230803111718. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe temperature-triggered in situ gelling system has been revolutionized by introducing an intelligent polymeric system. Temperature-triggered polymer solutions are initially in a sol state and then undergo a phase transition to form a gel at body temperature due to various parameters like pH, temperature, and so on. These smart polymers offer a number of advantages, including ease of administration, long duration of release of the drug, low administration frequency with good patient compliance, and targeted drug del...

Polyethylene glycol embedded reduced graphene oxide supramolecular assemblies for enhanced room-temperature gas sensors
Environ Res. 2023 Jul 31:116793. doi: 10.1016/j.envres.2023.116793. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHerein, we present the gas-dependent electrical properties of a reduced graphene oxide nanocomposite. The reduced graphene oxide (rGO) was synthesized by reducing GO with sodium borohydride (NaBH4). As-synthesized rGO was dispersed in DI water containing 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 wt% polyethylene glycol (PEG) to prepare PEG-rGO supramolecular assemblies. The successful preparation of supramolecular assemblies was verified by their characterization using XRD, FESEM, EDS, TEM, FTIR, and Raman spectroscopy. At room temperature, the gas-d...

Heterogenous electro-Fenton degradation of sulfamethoxazole on a polyethylene glycol-coated magnetite nanoparticles catalyst
We report the preparation and application of poly (ethylene) glycol (PEG) coated magnetite nanoparticles (MNPs) catalyst for the heterogeneous electro-Fenton (HEF) degradation of sulfamethoxazole in real wastewater PEG-coated MNPs of four MNP:PEG ratios were synthesised using the co-precipitation method. The synthesised MNP were characterised using FTIR, XRD, EDX, TEM, and CHN elemental analysis. It was observed that the coating of MNP with PEG influences the nanoparticle size, agglomeration tendencies and catalytic efficiency of MNPs properties in the HEF degradation process. A 1:1 optimal MNP:PEG catalyst yielded 91% sul...

Tuning the Solution Self-Assembly of a Peptide-PEG (Polyethylene Glycol) Conjugate with alpha-Cyclodextrin
Chembiochem. 2023 Aug 2:e202300472. doi: 10.1002/cbic.202300472. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCyclodextrins are saccharide ring molecules which act as host cavities that can encapsulate small guest molecules or thread polymer chains. We investigate the influence of alpha-cyclodextrin (αCD) on the aqueous solution self-assembly of a peptide-polymer conjugate YYKLVFF-PEG3K previously studied by our group [Castelletto et al., Polym. Chem., 2010, 1, 453-459]. This conjugate comprises a designed amyloid-forming peptide YYKLVFF that contains the KLVFF sequence from Amyloid β peptide, Aβ16-20, along with two aromatic tyrosine...

Hepatic Bile Formation: Developing a New Paradigm
Pharmacol Rev. 2023 Aug 2:PHARMREV-AR-2022-000799. doi: 10.1124/pharmrev.122.000799. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn 1959, Ivar Sperber contrasted bile formation with that of urine and proposed that water flow into the canalicular conduit is in response to an osmotic not a hydrostatic gradient. Early attempts to support the hypothesis using a bile acid, sodium taurocholate, and the hormone secretin to stimulate bile flow led to conflicting data and a moratorium on attempts to further develop the initial proposal. However, current data amplifiy the proposal and indicate both paracellular and transcellular water flow into h...
