A SNAI2/CTCF Interaction is Required for < em > NOTCH1 < /em > Expression in Rhabdomyosarcoma
Mol Cell Biol. 2023 Oct 26:1-19. doi: 10.1080/10985549.2023.2256640. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is a pediatric malignancy of the muscle with characteristics of cells blocked in differentiation. NOTCH1 is an oncogene that promotes self-renewal and blocks differentiation in the fusion negative-RMS sub-type. However, how NOTCH1 expression is transcriptionally maintained in tumors is unknown. Analyses of SNAI2 and CTCF chromatin binding and HiC analyses revealed a conserved SNAI2/CTCF overlapping peak downstream of the NOTCH1 locus marking a sub-topologically associating domain (TAD) boundary. Deletio...

Evaluation and mechanism study of Pien Tze Huang against EV-A71 infection
Hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) caused by enterovirus A71 (EV-A71) infection, currently lacks specific preventive and therapeutic interventions. Here, we demonstrated that Pien Tze Huang (PZH) could dose-dependently inhibit EV-A71 replication at the cellular level, resulting in significant reductions in EV-A71 virus protein 1 (VP1) expression and viral yields in Vero and human rhabdomyosarcoma cells. More importantly, we confirmed that PZH could protect mice from EV-A71 infection for the first time, with Ribavirin serving as a positive control. PZH treatment reduced EV-A71 VP1 protein expression, viral yields in infec...

A Simple Step-by-Step Guide to Permanent Punctal Occlusion with the Ophthalmic Burr and Suture Technique
This article demonstrates this technique step-by-step in an 8-year-old child with severe chronic dry eye disease following proton beam therapy for orbital rhabdomyosarcoma. She underwent this procedure with excellent results.PMID:37871593 | DOI:10.1055/a-2179-4498 (Source: Klinische Monatsblatter fur Augenheilkunde)

Residential proximity to vines and risk of childhood embryonal tumours in France - GEOCAP case-control study, 2006-2013
CONCLUSION: The study showed a slight increase in the risk of neuroblastoma in children living close to vines, suggesting that residential exposure to agricultural pesticides may be involved in the occurrence of these tumours.PMID:37865323 | DOI:10.1016/j.envres.2023.117417 (Source: Environmental Research)

Rhabdomyosarcoma and undifferentiated round cell tumours of soft tissue in children, adolescents and young adults
Soft tissue sarcomas are a rare group of heterogenous entities which affect the tissues supporting, connecting and/or surrounding body structures and organs. Factors such as patient age and tumour location can influence how soft tissue sarcomas manifest with biological and clinical behaviour ranging from less aggressive to highly malignant. Recent advances in both diagnosis and treatment have led to new insights into the pathologic, histologic and genomic characterisation of sarcomas and these insights have diversified subtyping. Pharmacological EZH2 inhibition combined with retinoic acid treatment promotes differentiation and apoptosis in rhabdomyosarcoma cells
Rhabdomyosarcomas (RMS) are predominantly paediatric sarcomas thought to originate from muscle precursor cells due to impaired myogenic differentiation. Despite intensive treatment, 5-year survival for patient... (Source: Clinical Epigenetics)

Small bowel metastasis from embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of the extremity- a case report
We report an unusual case of ileal metastases from an upper extremity rhabdomyosarcoma in a 17-year-old male who presented with abdominal pain during a routine follow-up visit. Laparotomy and ileocecectomy for a perforated ileal mass confirmed metastatic embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma with 1 out of 14 positive lymph node metastases. This case demonstrates that, although rare, intra-abdominal metastases should be considered when patients with a rhabdomyosarcoma present with abdominal complaints.PMID:37849325 | DOI:10.36303/SAJS.4120 (Source: South African Journal of Surgery)
