Pediatric presacral tumors with intraspinal extension: a rare entity with diagnostic challenges
We report a series of six cases of pediatric presacral tumors with intraspinal extension, including an immature sacrococcygeal teratoma (Altman type II), a malignant sacrococcygeal teratoma (Altman type IV), a neuroblastoma, a rhabdomyosarcoma, a clear cell sarcoma and an Ewing's sarcoma of the ilium. These tumors can be broadly categorized as tumors of germ cell, neuroblastic, mesenchymal and osteogenic origin. Despite overlapping imaging features, a review of the existing literature and careful retrospective observation revealed several distinctive features that aid in the optimal characterization of tumors. These includ...

Case Report: A 13-year-old adolescent diagnosed as malignant phyllodes tumor combined with rhabdomyosarcoma differentiation
Phyllodes tumor (PT) is an infrequent type of breast neoplasm, constituting a mere 0.5%–1.5% of the entirety of breast tumors. The malignant phyllodes tumor (MPT) comprises only 15% of all phyllodes tumors, and its transformation into rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is exceedingly rare in clinical practice. Given its insensitivity to chemotherapy and radiotherapy, treatment options for MPT patients are limited, leaving complete surgical resection as the only option. Therefore, it is imperative to investigate the effective utilization of the heterogeneous differentiation characteristics of MPT to expand treatment alternatives for ...

Loss of Chromosome 3q Is a Prognostic Marker in Fusion-Negative Rhabdomyosarcoma
CONCLUSION: The pathogenesis of STS including FN-RMS remains poorly understood, emphasizing the need for new therapeutic advances and adequate risk stratification. Our data demonstrate that loss of chr3q is associated with poor OS in FN-RMS, supporting it as an important tool for risk stratification.PMID:37738543 | DOI:10.1200/PO.23.00037 (Source: Ann Oncol)

Piperacetazine directly binds to the PAX3::FOXO1 fusion protein and inhibits its transcriptional activity
Cancer Res Commun. 2023 Sep 21. doi: 10.1158/2767-9764.CRC-23-0119. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe tumor-specific chromosomal translocation product, PAX3::FOXO1, is an aberrant fusion protein that plays a key role for oncogenesis in the alveolar subtype of rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS). PAX3::FOXO1 represents a validated molecular target for alveolar RMS and successful inhibition of its oncogenic activity is likely to have significant clinical applications. Even though several PAX3::FOXO1 function-based screening studies have been successfully completed, a directly binding small molecule inhibitor of PAX3::FOXO1 has not been r...

Which Patients With Rhabdomyosarcoma Need Radiotherapy? Analysis of the Radiotherapy Strategies of the CWS-96 and CWS-2002P Studies and SoTiSaR Registry
CONCLUSION: RT can be omitted in patients with IRS I eRMS. RT improves LCS and EFS in IRS II and III. RT improves OS in patients with HN-PM, with proton RT comparable with photon RT. Doses of 32 Gy (HART) or 36 and 41.4 Gy (CFRT) had comparable efficacy in patients with favorable risk profiles and 44.8 Gy (HART) or 50.4 and 55.8 Gy (CFRT) in the unfavorable groups.PMID:37725766 | DOI:10.1200/JCO.22.02673 (Source: Cancer Control)

Network pharmacology-based exploration identified the antiviral efficacy of Quercetin isolated from mulberry leaves against enterovirus 71 via the NF- κB signaling pathway
Conclusion: With these findings in mind, we can conclude that inhibiting the NF-κB signaling pathway is a critical mechanism through which Quercetin exerts its anti-EV71 effectiveness. (Source: Frontiers in Pharmacology)

Adult Laryngeal Pleomorphic Rhabdomyosarcoma: A Rare Entity
Ear Nose Throat J. 2023 Sep 16:1455613231198986. doi: 10.1177/01455613231198986. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is a rare and aggressive cancerous tumor that arises from embryonal mesenchymal cells with skeletal muscle differentiation, and it is exceedingly rare that occurs specifically in the larynx. To date, only 22 instances of laryngeal pleomorphic RMSs have been documented in adults. Consequently, there is limited information available to assist healthcare professionals in effectively handling RMS in the larynx of adult patients. Here, we present an uncommon occurrence involving a 45-year-old man...

Glucosylated Hybrid TiO2/Polymer Nanomaterials for Actively Targeted Sonodynamic Therapy of Cancer
Researchers introduce a novel anticancer sonodynamic platform, namely glucosylated hybrid ceramic/polymeric nanoparticles. These precisely size-controlled nanoparticles enhance tumor-specific delivery using a surface modification with a glucose analog. When combined with therapeutic ultrasound, these nanoparticles dramatically reduce tumor growth and prolong the survival of rhabdomyosarcoma-bearing mice. This innovative strategy shows great potential for local anticancer treatment. AbstractSonodynamic therapy (SDT) is an anti-cancer therapeutic strategy based on the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) upon local ul...

Small. 2023 Sep 15:e2305475. doi: 10.1002/smll.202305475. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSonodynamic therapy (SDT) is an anti-cancer therapeutic strategy based on the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) upon local ultrasound (US) irradiation of sono-responsive molecules or nanomaterials that accumulate in the tumor. In this work, the sonodynamic efficiency of sono-responsive hybrid nanomaterials composed of amorphous titanium dioxide and an amphiphilic poly(ethylene oxide)-b-poly(propylene oxide) block copolymer is synthesized, fully characterized, and investigated both in vitro and in vivo. The modular and versatil...
