Smyd1: Implications for novel approaches in rhabdomyosarcoma therapy
Exp Cell Res. 2023 Dec 12;434(2):113863. doi: 10.1016/j.yexcr.2023.113863. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRhabdomyosarcoma (RMS), a tumor that consists of poorly differentiated skeletal muscle cells, is the most common soft-tissue sarcoma in children. Despite considerable progress within the last decades, therapeutic options are still limited, warranting the need for novel approaches. Recent data suggest deregulation of the Smyd1 protein, a sumoylation target as well as H3K4me2/3 methyltransferase and transcriptional regulator in myogenesis, and its binding partner skNAC, in RMS cells. Here, we show that despite the fact th...

Isolated embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of the anterior petrous bone in a young child: Focusing on the intra-operative diagnosis and differentials
CONCLUSION: Isolated petrous bone involvement of embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma is a rare presentation. Intra-operative frozen section plays a key role in decision making regarding the extent of excision. Hence, a prompt and accurate diagnosis is essential in managing these cases.PMID:38085093 | DOI:10.5414/NP301586 (Source: Clinical Neuropathology)

Prognostic Factors for Uterine Sarcoma and Carcinosarcoma: Insights from a 10-Year Follow-Up Study
CONCLUSIONS A 10-year follow-up of patients with uterine sarcoma indicates that age above 60 years at diagnosis and high p53 expression and elevated CA125 levels before treatment can be independent prognostic factors. The high diagnostic sensitivity of sTNF RI and VEGF suggests the possibility of using these biomarkers in the early diagnosis of uterine sarcomas.PMID:38058118 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.941562 (Source: Cancer Control)

GSE215393 Dynamic interplay of BRD4 isoforms in embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma
In this study, we show that long and short isoform of the epigenetic regulator BRD4 is overexpressed in ERMS patient-derived cell lines and patient tumour specimens. Functionally, knockdown of long isoform of BRD4 reduced proliferation and promotes differentiation. Knockdown of the short isoform on the other hand promotes migration and invasion. The functional observations were confirmed in vitro and in vivo. Through RNA Sequencing analysis, we identified Myostatin (MSTN) and Integrins (ITGs) as important downstream target of long and short isoform of BRD4 respectively. We thus conclude from this study that long isoform fu...
