The effects of Phoniatric PREhabilitation in Head and Neck Cancer patients on Aspiration and Preservation of Swallowing (PREHAPS): study protocol of a monocentric prospective randomized interventional outcome-blinded trial
DISCUSSION: Prehabilitation measures have already proven successful in other patient groups, e.g., transplant patients. In the field of head and neck oncology, interest in such concepts has increased significantly in recent years. However, usually, only subgroups, e.g., patients with swallowing problems after radiochemotherapy alone, are in focus. Our study aims to investigate the general benefit of prehabilitation with regard to swallowing function, which is so important for protection of aspiration and quality of life.TRIAL REGISTRATION: German Clinical Trials Register DRKS00029676 . Pharyngeal mucosal closure in total laryngectomy: comparison between vertical and T-shaped closure
CONCLUSIONS: Although complicationswere lower in the T-shaped closure group, we could not establish the superiority of either technique.PMID:38502946 | DOI:10.24875/CIRU.22000324 (Source: Cirugia y Cirujanos)

Effects of lactalbumin enzymatic hydrolysate on human squamous cell carcinoma cells-an in vitro study
CONCLUSION: LAH treatment exhibits inhibitory effects on hSCC cell growth, proliferation and MMPs gene expression. Thus, LAH should be the promising alternative agent to develop the prospective anti-cancer drug.PMID:38495954 | PMC:PMC10940804 | DOI:10.1016/j.jobcr.2024.02.011 (Source: Cell Research)

Two-Year Intention-to-Treat Analysis for Tumor Outcome in Patients Treated with Avasopasem for Oral Cavity and Oral Pharynx Primaries
IMRT plus cisplatin (CRT) is established treatment for LAHNC, but ∼70% of patients develop severe oral mucositis (SOM), often requiring feeding tube nutrition. Avasopasem (AVA) is an investigational small molecule selective dismutase mimetic converting superoxide to hydrogen peroxide, which may protect normal cells from, and potentially sensitize cancer cells to , RT (Anderson 2019, Sishc 2021). In a randomized, double-blind phase 3 trial, AVA substantially reduced duration and incidence of SOM versus placebo (PBO) without an adverse effect on safety or 1-yr survival (Anderson 2022). Association of Radiation Dose to Pharynx with Long-term Quality of Life in Patients with Head and Neck Cancer
Radiation therapy (RT) is often the primary curative treatment modality for head and neck cancer (HNC). Patients receiving definitive RT for HNC are at high risk for long-term toxicity, including dry mouth, swallowing difficulties, and speech difficulties. Previous studies have suggested structure sparing during RT planning may reduce treatment toxicity as a way to mitigate these long-term effects. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the association of RT dose to the pharynx, larynx, and esophagus with long-term patient-reported quality of life (QOL) in the domains of xerostomia, dysphagia, and dysarthria. Characteristics and Management of Post Treatment Pharyngeal Ulceration in Oropharyngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma Patients Treated with Definitive Radiation/Chemoradiation
Treatment of oropharyngeal cancer with definitive radiation/chemoradiation (RT/CRT) is an effective treatment and rapid regression of tumor can occur. Following treatment some patients will develop a pharyngeal ulcer which may or may not be associated with disease persistence. Data for the management of ulcers could improve post radiation care. Role of H.pylori in Chronic Sore Throat by Using H.pylori Line
This study aimed to detect role of H pylori in chronic pharyngitis. 85 patients who had chronic pharyngitis with normal CBC, WBCS, lymphocyte, monocyte and eosinophils with negative ASO titer and throat swab. These patients did H pylori line to detect H pylori virulent antigen. 77 patients with chronic pharyngitis are positive H pylori and after medical treatment 68 patients became negative. H. Pylori line is a new test for detection of the virulent strains and screening H pylori carrier at risk of developing gastric and duodenal ulcers as well as cancer.
