Promoter DNA methylation patterns in oral, laryngeal and oropharyngeal anatomical regions are associated with tumor differentiation, nodal involvement and survival
Oncol Lett. 2024 Jan 8;27(3):89. doi: 10.3892/ol.2024.14223. eCollection 2024 Mar.ABSTRACTDifferentially methylated regions (DMRs) can be used as head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic targets in precision medicine workflows. DNA from 21 HNSCC and 10 healthy oral tissue samples was hybridized to a genome-wide tiling array to identify DMRs in a discovery cohort. Downstream analyses identified differences in promoter DNA methylation patterns in oral, laryngeal and oropharyngeal anatomical regions associated with tumor differentiation, nodal involvement and survival. Genome-wide D...

Embryonic expression patterns of TBL1 family in zebrafish
Gene Expr Patterns. 2024 Jan 23;51:119355. doi: 10.1016/j.gep.2024.119355. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTExcept the addition of TBL1Y in human, transducing beta like 1 (TBL1) family mainly consists of two members TBL1X and TBL1XR1, taking part in multiple intracellular signaling pathways such as Wnt/β-catenin and NF-κB in cancer progression. However, the gene expression patterns of this family during embryonic development remain largely unknown. Here we took advantage of zebrafish model to characterize the spatial and temporal expression patterns of TBL1 family genes including tbl1x, tbl1xr1a and tbl1xr1b. The in situ hy...

Genes, Vol. 15, Pages 132: The Causal Relationship between PCSK9 Inhibitors and Malignant Tumors: A Mendelian Randomization Study Based on Drug Targeting
Conclusions: The study indicates a divergent causal relationship of PCSK9 inhibitors with certain cancers. While negatively associated with breast and lung cancers, a positive causal association was observed with gastric, hepatic, oral cavity, and pharyngeal cancers and cervical carcinoma in situ. No causal links were found with bladder, thyroid, pancreatic, colorectal, certain kidney, brain, and esophageal cancers. (Source: Genes)

Differences in the association of time to treatment initiation and survival according to various head and neck cancer sites in a nationwide cohort
The incidence of cancer and related mortality are increasing rapidly worldwide. The incidence was estimated at 14.1 million cases in 2012 and increased to over 19.3 million new cases in 2020, while cancer-related deaths increased from 8.2 million in 2012 to almost 10 million in 2018 [1]. Approximately 900,000 new head and neck cancers (HNC) are reported annually [1,2]. HNC is an umbrella term that encompasses mainly epithelial malignancies that arise in the oral cavity, pharynx and larynx. Almost all of these epithelial malignancies are squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs), for which the most important risk factors are tobacco ...
