The indirect costs of human papillomavirus-related cancer in Central and Eastern Europe: years of life lost and productivity costs
CONCLUSIONS: There is a high disease burden of HPV-related cancer-related deaths in the CEE region, with a large economic impact to society due to substantial productivity losses. It is critical to implement and reinforce public health measures with the aim to reduce the incidence of HPV-related diseases, and the subsequent premature cancer deaths. Improving HPV screening and increasing vaccination programs, in both male and female populations, could help reduce this burden.PMID:38638098 | DOI:10.1080/13696998.2024.2341572 (Source: Journal of Medical Economics)

Partial recovery of peripheral blood monocyte subsets in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma patients upon radio(chemo)therapy is associated with decreased plasma CXCL11
Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) represents a common and heterogeneous malignancy of the oral cavity, pharynx and larynx. Surgery and radio(chemo)therapy are the standard treatment options and als... (Source: BMC Cancer)

Clinical Results and Prognostic Factors in BNCT for Recurrent Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Head and Neck under the Japan National Health Insurance System: A Retrospective Study of the Initial 47 Patients
CONCLUSIONS: This study provided valuable insights into the early integration of BNCT into routine clinical practice, highlighting its efficacy and safety. Technical improvements are needed to ensure precise dose administration. Ongoing prospective studies, such as the phase II REBIVAL study, will further elucidate the role of BNCT in recurrent head and neck cancer.PMID:38580084 | DOI:10.1016/j.ijrobp.2024.03.041 (Source: Health Physics)

Ultrasound-guided diagnosis on a parapharyngeal mass
We report the case of a patient who came to our observation for mandibular pain. Multiparametric diagnostic imaging was done thus showing a parapharyngeal mass. An ultrasound guided biopsy was performed by a transcutaneous route with a high median approach at neck level, to characterize the mass in the right tonsillar region. The histological examination reported the final histological diagnosis of sarcomatoid carcinoma. (Source: Journal of Ultrasound)

Meta-Analysis of Incidence and Mortality of Firefighter Cancer: An Update on Emerging Science
CONCLUSIONS: The findings underscore the global cancer burden among firefighters, and indicate that geographically stratifying studies afford a more nuanced risk perspective. Further research should investigate why US firefighters exhibit higher cancer mortality rates compared to international counterparts.PMID:38546063 | DOI:10.31557/APJCP.2024.25.3.801 (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention)
