Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma with heterotopic ossification, lymphovascular invasion, and nodal and pulmonary metastases in a 23-year-old Morgan gelding
This report describes a case of metastatic pulmonary squamous cell carcinoma in a 23-year-old Morgan gelding. The clinical signs displayed by this gelding in some ways mimicked the typical presentation of equine multinodular pulmonary fibrosis or thoracic lymphoma. The postmortem diagnosis in this case was head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, but a primary site of origin could not be ascertained. Cancer-associated heterotopic ossification (HO) was also identified in this case; this is an exceedingly rare finding with equine pulmonary neoplasia. Key clinical message: Careful physical examination should be undertaken in al...

Improvement in Swallowing Function in Patients with Previous Irradiation for Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma by Expiratory Muscle Strength Training
This study investigates the effectiveness of EMST in a group of post-irradiated NPC patients. This prospective cohort, including twelve patients with previous irradiation for NPC and with swallowing disturbance, was performed between 2019 and 2021 in a single institution. Patients were trained with EMST for 8  weeks. Non-parametric analyses examined effects of EMST on primary outcome, maximum expiratory pressure. Secondary outcomes were measured with Penetration-aspiration scale, Yale pharyngeal residue severity rating scale (YPRSRS) by flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing, and Eating Assessment Tool (EAT-10) and ...

The influence of tumor volume on the risk of distant metastases in head and neck squamous cell carcinomas
CONCLUSION: Tumor volume is an independent risk factor for DM. The addition of total tumor volume to a predictive model is important to identify subgroups of HNSCC patients at high risk of DM.PMID:37385382 | DOI:10.1016/j.radonc.2023.109771 (Source: Radiotherapy and Oncology : journal of the European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology)
