Contribution of Wireless Wi-Fi Intraoral Cameras to the Assessment of Swallowing Safety and Efficiency
CONCLUSIONS: This preliminary retrospective study suggests that intraoral cameras can reveal the accumulated oropharyngeal secretions and postswallow pharyngolaryngeal residue in patients with suspected dysphagia. Future large-scale studies focusing on validating and exploring this contemporary low-cost technology as part of a clinical swallowing evaluation are warranted.PMID:38437030 | DOI:10.1044/2023_JSLHR-23-00375 (Source: Journal of speech, language, and hearing research : JSLHR)

Dysphagia in Open Partial Horizontal Laryngectomy Type IIa: Quantitative Analysis of Videofluoroscopy using the ASPEKT Method
AbstractOpen Partial Horizontal Laryngectomy (OPHL) Type IIa surgery is a conservative surgical technique used in the treatment of laryngeal carcinomas. In this pilot study, we aimed to characterize swallowing function and physiology in a series of patients after OPHL Type IIa surgery through comparison to healthy reference values for quantitative measures for videofluoroscopy. We performed retrospective quantitative analysis of videofluoroscopy recordings of thin liquid swallows for a preliminary sample of 10 male patients. Each videofluoroscopy clip was rated in triplicate by trained blinded raters according to the ASPEK...

Incidental Laryngeal Findings in Routine Laryngopharyngeal Reflux Diagnosis
CONCLUSIONS: Evaluation of LPR symptoms may provide otolaryngologists with a tool to identify patients with other findings on fiberoptic laryngoscopy. A laryngoscopic examination should be part of the examination of every patient with LPR to enable diagnosis of incidental findings.PMID:38420641 (Source: The Israel Medical Association Journal)
