ARIA II: a randomized controlled trial of near-infrared Angiography during RectosIgmoid resection and Anastomosis in women with ovarian cancer
Int J Gynecol Cancer. 2024 Mar 21:ijgc-2024-005395. doi: 10.1136/ijgc-2024-005395. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Ovarian cancer with extensive metastatic disease involving pelvic structures often requires rectosigmoid resection for complete gross resection; however, it is associated with increased surgical morbidity. There are limited data, and none in ovarian cancer, on near-infrared assessment of perfusion in rectosigmoid resections with anastomosis.PRIMARY OBJECTIVE: To compare the rate of pelvic complications (pelvic abscesses, anastomotic leaks, and infections) within 30 days of surgery with and without ne...

TGFbeta signalling pathway impacts brain metastases profiles in locally advanced colorectal cancer
CONCLUSION: Our results suggest the TGFβ pathway as a crucial player in the development of brain metastases in primary CRC. In some types of colorectal cancer, downregulation of the TGFβ pathway might hinder primary colorectal cancer to metastasize to the nervous system. While the paradoxical functioning of the TGFβ pathway is still not fully understood, these shed light on yet another clinical implication of this complex pathway.PMID:38498101 | DOI:10.1007/s10585-024-10277-3 (Source: Clinical Colorectal Cancer)

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1182: Systemic Chemotherapy in Colorectal Peritoneal Metastases Treated with Cytoreductive Surgery: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Conclusions. Systemic chemotherapy administration in patients undergoing radical surgery for colorectal peritoneal metastases is associated with increased survival only in the adjuvant/post-operative setting. Considering the limitations of the included studies, further trials are needed to answer this unresolved question. (Source: Cancers)

Retrospective Evaluation of the Prognostic Value of Histological Growth Pattern in Patients with Colorectal Peritoneal Metastases Undergoing Curative-Intent Cytoreductive Surgery
CONCLUSIONS: This study confirms the prognostic value and reproducibility of the two previously reported HGPs in PMCRC. Dominant P-HGP is associated with better DFS and OS in patients undergoing curative-intent CRS ± HIPEC compared with I-HGP, independently of the extent of peritoneal disease burden.PMID:38491312 | DOI:10.1245/s10434-024-15125-y (Source: Ann Oncol)

DNA Methylation of a Group of Long Non-Coding RNA Genes at Different Stages of Ovarian Cancer Dissemination
There are three types of metastases in ovarian cancer: lymphogenous, hematogenous, and peritoneal. Dissemination of the tumor in the peritoneum is directly related with the development of ascites and a poor prognosis. The purpose of this study is to determine changes in the methylation level of a group of long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) genes at different stages of ovarian cancer progression. The methylation level of 7 lncRNA genes (LINC00472,LINC00886,MAFG-DT,SNHG1,SNHG6,TP53TG1, andTUG1) was studied by quantitative methyl-specific PCR in 93 samples of ovarian tumors and 75 paired samples of histologically normal tissue, as ...

Compliance With NCCN Guidelines for Evaluation and Treatment of Anemia Among Patients With Solid Tumors
CONCLUSIONS: Anemia is common in patients with solid tumors; yet, compliance with NCCN Guidelines for evaluation and treatment of anemia remains low. There are opportunities to improve compliance with guidelines across the spectrum of cancer care.PMID:38489926 | DOI:10.6004/jnccn.2023.7108 (Source: Journal of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network : JNCCN)

Neoadjuvant chemotherapy for high-grade serous ovarian cancer: radiologic –pathologic correlation of response assessment and predictors of progression
ConclusionHGSC response to neoadjuvant therapy by CT S-PCI did not predict pathologic CRS score, optimal debulking, or progression, revealing discordance between imaging, pathologic, biochemical, and surgical assessments of tumor response. (Source: Abdominal Imaging)

Improved Postoperative Pain Management Outcomes After Implementation of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) Protocol for Cytoreductive Surgery and Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (CRS-HIPEC)
CONCLUSIONS: ERAS implementation for CRS-HIPEC was associated with increased epidural use, decreased oral and IV opioid use, and earlier bowel function return. Our study demonstrates that epidural analgesia provides adequate pain control while significantly decreasing oral and IV opioid use, which may promote gastrointestinal recovery postoperatively. These findings support the implementation of an ERAS protocol for effective pain management in patients undergoing CRS-HIPEC.PMID:38466484 | DOI:10.1245/s10434-024-15120-3 (Source: Ann Oncol)

Remarkable response to capmatinib in a patient with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma harboring TFG-MET fusion
AbstractDysregulation of mesenchymal-epithelial transition factor (MET) gene due to amplification, mutation, and fusion has been reported in various types of human cancers. Recently, the efficacy of small-molecule tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) targeting MET has been demonstrated in a wide range ofMET-dysregulated tumors. The majority of biliary tract cancers including intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA) are diagnosed at an advanced stage, and the utility of conventional chemotherapy is limited. Here, we present a case of metastatic iCCA harboringTFG-MET gene fusion, which demonstrated a remarkable response to treatm...

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1098: Local Treatment of Colorectal Liver Metastases in the Presence of Extrahepatic Disease: Survival Outcomes from the Amsterdam Colorectal Liver Met Registry (AmCORE)
Conclusions: In this comparative series, OS was inferior for patients with multi-organ metastatic CRC versus patients with CRLMs alone. Nonetheless, the long-term survival curve plateau seemed to justify local treatment in a subset of patients with multi-organ metastatic CRC, especially for patients with CRLMs and pulmonary or lymph node metastases.
