Single-cell deconvolution reveals high lineage- and location-dependent heterogeneity in mesenchymal multivisceral stage IV colorectal cancer
J Clin Invest. 2023 Dec 28:e169576. doi: 10.1172/JCI169576. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMetastasized colorectal cancer (CRC) is associated with a poor prognosis and rapid disease progression. Besides hepatic metastasis, peritoneal carcinomatosis is the major cause of death in UICC (Union for International Cancer Control) stage IV CRC patients. Insights into differential site-specific reconstitution of tumour cells and the corresponding tumour microenvironment are still missing. Here, we analysed the transcriptome of single cells derived from murine multivisceral CRC and delineated the inter-metastatic cellular heterogene...

Experiences of patients with peritoneal carcinomatosis-related complex care needs and their caregivers
CONCLUSION: Patients with PC and their caregivers are highly burdened by symptoms and care needs. Patients' prognostic understanding and advance care planning are suboptimal. Interventions that train patients with PC and their caregivers to perform clinical care tasks, facilitate serious illness conversations, and provide psychosocial support are needed.PMID:38141533 | DOI:10.1016/j.ygyno.2023.12.013 (Source: Gynecologic Oncology)

Supragastric lesser sac: an insidious site for surgical exploration during the debulking surgery in advanced ovarian cancer
CONCLUSION: Metastases to the SGLS are not uncommon in advanced ovarian cancer, particularly those with widely disseminated disease. Disease in this recess is rarely identified by preoperative imaging and deserves systematic surgical exploration to attain complete cytoreduction.PMID:38130134 | DOI:10.3802/jgo.2024.35.e25 (Source: Journal of Gynecologic Oncology)

Combined Interval Cytoreductive Surgery and Carboplatin-Based Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy in Advanced Primary High-Grade Serous Ovarian Cancer
Curr Oncol. 2023 Dec 1;30(12):10272-10282. doi: 10.3390/curroncol30120748.ABSTRACTCombining interval cytoreductive surgery (CRS) with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) improves survival in advanced epithelial ovarian carcinoma (EOC). Although limited, growing evidence regarding carboplatin-based HIPEC highlights its potential. This retrospective study included all patients with advanced primary high-grade serous ovarian cancer who underwent interval CRS combined with carboplatin-based HIPEC at our Canadian tertiary care center between 2014 and 2020. We identified 40 patients with a median age of 61 years. T...
