Microbiome reveals inflammatory ‐related bacteria and putative functional pathways involved in human papillomavirus‐associated penile squamous cell carcinoma
ConclusionWe describe the first microbiome of penile carcinoma, which revealed an abundant and diverse microbiota as well as inflammatory-related taxa (the phyla Proteobacteria and Firmicutes, the generaFusobacterium andPrevotella, and the speciesFinegoldia magma andPseudomonas geniculata) and molecular pathways (chitin derivates degradation, the protocatechuic acid pathway, inositol metabolism, and the sucrose pathway), which have also been linked to inflammation and carcinogenesis. Moreover, we found specific and abundant ASVs in both tumor and non-tumor tissues. Our data encourage further study to better understand the ...

Cancers, Vol. 15, Pages 4984: The Influence of the Microbiome on Urological Malignancies: A Systematic Review
vich Hemendra N. Shah The microbiome, once considered peripheral, is emerging as a relevant player in the intricate web of factors contributing to cancer development and progression. These often overlooked microorganisms, in the context of urological malignancies, have been investigated primarily focusing on the gut microbiome, while exploration of urogenital microorganisms remains limited. Considering this, our systematic review delves into the complex role of these understudied actors in various neoplastic conditions, including prostate, bladder, kidney, penile, and testicular cancers. Our analysis found a total of...

Testicular Cancer: The Unmet Needs of a Younger Generation of Cancer Survivors

Epub 2023 Aug 17.ABSTRACTUnmet holistic needs of various cancer populations, with examples including prostate, bladder, gynecologic, kidney, penile, breast, and colorectal, along with holistic impacts of cancer on older adults, have been defined by a growing number of systematic reviews. Unfortunately, there continues to be a lack of clinical insight into the unique needs of younger men with testicular cancer. Survival rate based on low mortality rates and good prognosis if early detection and treatment implementation grows the number of men who n...

superinfected penile cancer complicated by genital gangrene: management and role of gangrene biopsy
A 70-year-old man was referred to the urology clinic because of Fournier's genital gangrene, the main reason for consultation in this elderly multitarre patient is the unpleasant odor felt by him (Figure 1). The patient was being followed for unbalanced diabetes and morbid obesity associated with these complications of maceration and prolonged bed rest. Initial urological evaluation revealed necrosis lesions at the base of the penis with pus discharge through, with a fixed right inguinal adenopathy, confirmed by CT scan (Figure 2). (Source: Urology)

A population-based analysis of the epidemiology of penile cancer in Newfoundland and Labrador
CONCLUSIONS: The incidence of penile cancer in our population was higher than reported Western jurisdictions and showed frequent rates of metastatic spread. These observations are likely multifactorial, resultant of chronic inflammation paired with high rates of modifiable risk factors and diagnostic delays. An evident need for greater examination and improved reporting of these malignancies in the province was identified.PMID:37812793 | DOI:10.5489/cuaj.8451 (Source: Canadian Urological Association Journal)
