An etiology-focused overview of vulvar and penile squamous cell carcinoma and its precursors: similarities, differences and emerging concepts
Although rare, cancer of the vulva and penis have significant morbidity, mortality, and potentially psychologically distressing treatments. At both sites, squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is the most common tumor type. Transitioning from classification systems reliant on histomorphology, two pathways of carcinogenesis are recognized in genital SCC based on human papillomavirus (HPV) infection status: HPV-associated and HPV-independent. Each pathway has unique etiology, pathology, molecular findings, and prognostic differences with clinically relevant outcomes. (Source: Diagnostic Histopathology)

Long-term follow-up of comparative study of open and endoscopic lymphadenectomy in patients with penile carcinoma
ConclusionsThe study shows that both open and endoscopic methods work well for controlling penile carcinoma in the long term. But the endoscopic approach is better because it has fewer severe complications. So, the choice of surgery method might depend on factors like the surgeon ’s experience, what they like, and what resources are available. (Source: Surgical Endoscopy)

Cancers, Vol. 15, Pages 5324: Multiparametric Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Penile Cancer: A Pictorial Review
Knut H. Hole The role of multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) in assessing penile cancer is not well defined. However, this modality may be successfully applied for preoperative staging and patient selection; postoperative local and regional surveillance; and assessments of treatment response after oncological therapies. Previous studies have been mostly limited to a few small series evaluating the accuracy of MRI for the preoperative staging of penile cancer. This review discusses the principles of non-erectile mpMRI, including functional techniques and their applications in evaluating the male genital r...

Vaccines for HPV-associated diseases
Mol Aspects Med. 2023 Nov 4;94:101224. doi: 10.1016/j.mam.2023.101224. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHuman papillomavirus (HPV) infection represents a significant global health concern owing to its role in the etiology of conditions ranging from benign low-grade lesions to cancers of the cervix, head and neck, anus, vagina, vulva, and penis. Prophylactic vaccination programs, primarily targeting adolescent girls, have achieved dramatic reductions in rates of HPV infection and cervical cancer in recent years. However, there is a clear demand for a strategy to manage the needs of the many people who are already living with p...

Expanding indications for urogenital transplantation: congenital and oncologic defects, and gender affirmation
Curr Opin Organ Transplant. 2023 Dec 1;28(6):425-430. doi: 10.1097/MOT.0000000000001111. Epub 2023 Sep 26.ABSTRACTPURPOSE OF REVIEW: Penile transplantation has become an emerging option for patients with severe genital defects. Only transplantation restores anatomy, sexual, and reproductive function of the penis. However, penile transplantation comes with important technical, psychosocial, ethical, and surgical challenges that must be considered for successful implementation. Indications for penile transplantation have yet to be clearly elucidated.RECENT FINDINGS: Since 2006, only five penile transplants have been performe...
