MIR-376A-2-5P as a potential prognostic marker for advanced penile squamous cell carcinomas trough HPV-dependent pathways
Am J Cancer Res. 2023 Nov 15;13(11):5466-5481. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTPenile cancer (PeCa) is a rare tumor, generally associated with socioeconomic conditions in low-income countries. Hence, a delay in diagnosis and treatment leads in more advanced tumors, to higher comorbidity, and mortality. Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection has been identified as one of the major risk factors for PeCa. In addition, viral integration sites have been related to copy number alterations, impacting miRNAs/mRNA interactions and, consequently, the molecular pathways related to them. Nonetheless, studies on differentially expressed miRNAs ...

Pathologically Confirmed Subcutaneous Fat and Lymphovascular Invasion of a Hypopigmented Area in Extramammary Paget Disease
We report a case of a 62-year-old male with EMPD that invaded the subcutaneous fat layer. He presented with a several-year history of a slowly expanding erythematous plaque with the hypopigmented area on the left penoscrotum. One month before presentation, the patient had undergone punch biopsy at another hospital and diagnosed with EMPD. He had no personal history of urogenital cancers. The patient was treated with Mohs micrographic surgery, and negative margins were achieved after four stages. The histopathologic findings revealed Paget cells scattered throughout the epidermis. At the hypopigmented area, Paget cells exte...

Human Papillomavirus (HPV)-Associated Cancers Among Hispanic Males in the United States: Late-Stage Diagnosis by Country of Origin
CONCLUSION: Certain subgroups of Hispanic males have higher odds of late-stage HPV-associated cancer diagnosis based on country of origin and insurance status. These findings call for improved efforts to increase HPV vaccination, particularly among these subgroups of Hispanic males. Efforts to improve health care access and early detection from health care providers are also needed.PMID:38015627 | DOI:10.1177/10732748231218088 (Source: Cancer Control)

Differences in overall survival of penile cancer patients versus population-based controls
CONCLUSION: SCCP patients exhibit worse OS across all stages. The difference in OS at 5 years between SCCP and age-matched male population-based controls ranged from 17% to 61%. At 5 years, CSM accounted for 12% to 60% of all deaths, across all stages.PMID:38014575 | DOI:10.1111/iju.15346 (Source: Cancer Control)
