Expanding indications for urogenital transplantation: congenital and oncologic defects, and gender affirmation
Curr Opin Organ Transplant. 2023 Dec 1;28(6):425-430. doi: 10.1097/MOT.0000000000001111. Epub 2023 Sep 26.ABSTRACTPURPOSE OF REVIEW: Penile transplantation has become an emerging option for patients with severe genital defects. Only transplantation restores anatomy, sexual, and reproductive function of the penis. However, penile transplantation comes with important technical, psychosocial, ethical, and surgical challenges that must be considered for successful implementation. Indications for penile transplantation have yet to be clearly elucidated.RECENT FINDINGS: Since 2006, only five penile transplants have been performe...

56. Whole-exome sequencing identifies somatic mutations penile squamous cell carcinoma
Penile Cancer is a rare neoplasm in developed countries. Brazil is one of the countries with the highest disease incidence in Latin America. Understanding the molecular profile of the disease is essential for developing therapies and a better prognosis. In the literature, only a few studies have evaluated driver genes in the development of penile cancer through Whole-Exome Sequencing. Thus, the objective of the work is to make study the exome of Penile Squamous Cell Carcinoma (PSCC) and see what pathogenic mutations may be involved in the carcinogenesis process. A SEER database retrospective cohort of 547 patients with penile non-squamous cell carcinoma: demographics, clinical characteristics, and outcomes
DiscussionAlthough less prevalent than SCC, penile non-SCC encompasses a diverse set of neoplasms. Patients in this cohort had a high utilization of surgical management leading to superior outcomes compared to those not receiving surgery. Radiation is an uncommonly pursued treatment pathway. Patient demographics and socioeconomic variables such as marital status may be valuable when investigating cancer outcomes. This updated database analysis can help inform diagnosis, management, and clinical outcomes for this rare group of malignancies. (Source: Frontiers in Oncology)

Penile melanoma: a pathological report of two cases
Penile melanoma (PM) is a rare tumor, accounting for less than 2% of all penile cancers. PM can occur on the surface of the glans, foreskin, and opening of the urethra. Furthermore, PM primarily affects older ... (Source: Diagnostic Pathology)

Solitary Prostate Carcinoma Penile Metastasis on 18F-DCFPyL PET/CT
Clin Nucl Med. 2023 Oct 24. doi: 10.1097/RLU.0000000000004926. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAn 83-year-old man was referred for an 18F-DCFPyL PET scan for the evaluation of rising serum prostate-specific antigen level on the background of previous radical prostatectomy for prostate adenocarcinoma and urinary outflow tract obstruction requiring in-dwelling catheter insertion. The PET scan demonstrated focal increased activity (SUVmax, 35.7) at the dorsal aspect of the mid penile shaft, with histopathological confirmation of penile metastasis from primary prostate cancer.PMID:37883208 | DOI:10.1097/RLU.0000000000004926 (Sou...

Prognostic Markers and Trials in Penile Cancer
Urol Res Pract. 2023 May;49(3):138-146. doi: 10.5152/tud.2023.22225.ABSTRACTNew tumor biomarkers open the potential for designing personalized therapy for penile squamous cell carcinoma. Despite the initial promising results of some biomarkers, controversy remains due to contradictory studies. Further robust research work is required before incorporating biomarkers in the personalized management of penile cancer. This narrative review aims to highlight some of the most commonly and recently investigated biomarkers of penile cancer and to summarize the ongoing registered clinical trials for the management of penile cancer p...

Could the New pN Staging Classification Better Predict the Prognosis of Penile Cancer? A Population-Based Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: PeCa patients with only one or two lymph node metastases had similar survival outcomes. AJCC 8th edition pN staging has a better discriminative ability to predict the prognosis and can accurately stratify mortality risk in PeCa.PMID:37867332 | DOI:10.56434/j.arch.esp.urol.20237607.59 (Source: Archivos Espanoles de Urologia)
