Thiopurine S-Methyltransferase Polymorphisms in Korean Dermatologic Patients.
CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that 1) TPMT polymorphisms in Korean dermatologic patients are similar to those previously reported in Asian patients with the most common mutant allele being TPMT(*)3C and 2) AZA can be used in the patients with these polymorphisms under a careful dosing regimen. Association of Single-Nucleotide Polymorphisms of the MBL2 with Atopic Dermatitis in Korean Patients.
CONCLUSION: The frequency of MBL2 HYPB haplotype was significantly decreased in the AD patients compared to the controls. The frequency of LYPB/LXPA had a possibly protective effect on AD. Moreover, the MBL2 HYPA haplotype pairs, which were related to higher blood total IgE levels, were possibly associated with extrinsic AD. PMID: 28966513 [PubMed] (Source: Annals of Dermatology)

Comprehensive Transcriptome Profiling of Balding and Non-Balding Scalps in Trichorhinophalangeal Syndrome Type I Patient.
This study was conducted to identify additional genetic evidence of TRPS and hair morphogenesis from a TRPS patient. METHODS: From one TRPS type I patient, we extracted RNA and profiled whole transcriptome in non-balding and balding scalp areas using high-throughput RNA sequencing. RESULTS: We found a total of 26,320 genes, which comprised 14,892 known genes with new isoforms and 4,883 novel genes from the non-balding and balding areas. Among these, a total of 1,242 genes showed different expression in the two scalp areas (p0). Several genes related to the skin and hair, alopecia, and the TRPS1 gene were validated ...

Aggressive Indeterminate Dendritic Cell Tumor Mimicking Scalp Angiosarcoma.
Authors: Li Y, Wang TT, Zhang ZH, Wang L Abstract Indeterminate dendritic cell tumor (IDCT) is a proliferation of CD1a+, S100+ and langerin- histiocytes with a generally benign course. Here, we describe a case of a 90-year-old male who developed skin lesions on his scalp mimicking angiosarcoma and lymphadenopathy. He died six months after the onset of skin lesions despite of months' radiotherapy. Pathological examination ruled out scalp angiosarcoma and showed a high Ki-67 index. The appearance of skin lesions and lymphadenopathy led to challenges in diagnosis and the development of a treatment plan. PMID: 2896...

Epstein-Barr Virus-Associated Vesiculopapular Eruption on the Face of a Patient with Natural Killer T Cell Lymphoma.
Authors: Lim JS, Kim TM, Cho KH Abstract Unlike typical hydroa vacciniforme (HV), Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated HV-like eruption is more variable in its clinical manifestations. In some patients, progression to lymphoma or leukemia has been reported, which are characterized by the T-cell immunophenotype. Here, we report the first Korean case of EBV-associated vesiculopapular eruption on the face of a patient with natural killer (NK)/T cell lymphoma. A 32-year-old Korean man presented with a late adolescent-onset recurrent necrotic papulovesicles on his face. The patient was previously diagnosed with EBV-assoc...

Pyoderma Gangrenosum in a Patient with X-Linked Agammaglobulinemia.
Authors: Tan Q, Ren FL, Wang H Abstract X-linked agammaglobulinemia (XLA) is a primary immunodeficiency disorder caused by germline mutations of B-cell tyrosine kinase (BTK) gene. It is characterized by decreased serum immunoglobulins levels and circulating mature B cells. This defect in humoral immunity leads to increased susceptibility to infection. Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is an uncommon, ulcerating, neutrophilic dermatosis. Here we report PG in an 8-year-old patient with XLA.
