The Effect of Total Knee Replacement on Dual-Task Gait Performance in Older Adults
CONCLUSION: The absence of an effect of TKR on gait DTCs can potentially underlie increased fall risk after TKR. Results from this study emphasize the significance of balance as a measure and focal point for rehabilitation after TKR.IMPACT: This study contributes to our understanding of the attentional cost of walking in people before and after TKR, as well as to factors associated with it. Results from this work can assist formulation of rehabilitation programs for people with knee osteoarthritis.PMID:38691445 | DOI:10.1093/ptj/pzae067 (Source: Physical Therapy)

Effects of Isometric Quadriceps Muscle Exercise with Visual and Auditory Feedback at 1 Year after Total Knee Arthroplasty
CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that performing isometric quadriceps exercise with visual and auditory feedback using the quadriceps training machine has good effects, such as pain reduction, physical function improvement, exercise tolerance, and increased physical activity at 1 year after TKA.PMID:38690528 | PMC:PMC11057392 | DOI:10.1298/ptr.E10260 (Source: Physical Therapy)

Early Ambulation Following Lung Resection Surgery: Impact on Short-term Outcomes in Patients with Lung Cancer
CONCLUSIONS: Ambulation for ≥10 m during initial pulmonary rehabilitation after lung resection surgery may yield short-term benefits as evidenced by improvements in various outcomes. However, it may not significantly affect the PPC incidence.PMID:38690530 | PMC:PMC11057388 | DOI:10.1298/ptr.E10277 (Source: Physical Therapy)

Chitin-glucan improves important pathophysiological features of irritable bowel syndrome
CONCLUSION: CG decreased visceral perception and intestinal inflammation through master gene regulation and direct binding of microbial products, suggesting that CG may constitute a new therapeutic strategy for patients with IBS or IBS-like symptoms.PMID:38690023 | PMC:PMC11056916 | DOI:10.3748/wjg.v30.i16.2258 (Source: World Journal of Gastroenterology)

Dry needling in the management of chronic tension ‐type headache associated with levator scapulae syndrome: A case report
Dry needling to the levator scapulae muscle and its distal enthesis in the management of chronic tension-type headache. Key Clinical MessageThe use of DN to the muscular trigger points and distal periosteal enthesis of the levator scapulae may be a useful adjunct intervention within a multi-modal plan of care for the management of work-related chronic tension-type headaches associated with LSS.AbstractChronic tension-type headaches (CTTH) have a lifetime prevalence of 42% and account for more lost workdays than migraine headaches. Dry needling (DN) is being increasingly used by physical therapists in the management of CTTH...

Evaluating the development of endometriosis and adenomyosis lesions over time: An ultrasound study of symptomatic women
ConclusionsOur findings suggest that in symptomatic women, endometriosis and adenomyosis lesions visible at ultrasound may develop over time. However, majority of women remain having normal ultrasound examinations despite symptoms. Exacerbation of dysmenorrhea or chronic pelvic pain during follow-up was not associated with the development of endometriosis or adenomyosis lesions visible at ultrasound, suggesting that even women with less severe symptoms might benefit from a follow-up ultrasound when indicated. Circadian changes of autonomic function in patients with zoster ‐associated pain: A heart rate variability analysis
ConclusionThe results of this study indicated that ZAP contributes to the decline of autonomic nervous system (ANS) function, especially parasympathetic components. The patients with ZAP lost parasympathetic advantage and had a worse ANS during the night. (Source: Brain and Behavior)

Paget Disease of Bone Harboring Bone Metastatic Neuroendocrine Cancer: A Case Report
In conclusion, low back pain in the elderly may require deep investigation to individuate rare diseases. In asymptomatic patients with apparently stable PDB, the sudden appearance of pain or neurologic symptoms may alert the clinician for the possibility of other superimposing diseases, like bone metastases. Dysgerminoma with Syncytiotrophoblastic Giant Cells Associated with a Concurrent Ectopic Pregnancy
AbstractBackgroundDysgerminomas constitute around 1 –2% of all germ cell tumours. It is very very rare to have dysgerminoma with concurrent pregnancy with an incidence of 0.2–1 per 100,000 pregnancies. It is extremely difficult to conceive with no assisted reproductive interventions and carry it till completion with no complications in a concurre nt dysgerminoma. Dysgerminoma has a characteristic specific histomorphology and is easy to diagnose. However, occasionally, syncytiotrophoblastic differentiation can be seen in dysgerminoma although it is a rare histopathological finding. Also, the raised serum B-HCG levels du...

Serratus Anterior Plane Blocks for Early Rib Fracture Pain Management
This randomized clinical trial assesses whether the addition of a serratus anterior plane block to emergency department protocolized care bundles increases the likelihood of early favorable analgesic outcomes and reduces opioid requirements in patients with rib fractures in Australia. Characteristics and outcomes of patients with symptomatic chronic myocardial injury in a Tanzanian emergency department: A prospective observational study
by Faraan O. Rahim, Francis M. Sakita, Lauren A. Coaxum, Godfrey L. Kweka, Zak Loring, Jerome J. Mlangi, Sophie W. Galson, Tumsifu G. Tarimo, Gloria Temu, Gerald S. Bloomfield, Julian T Hertz BackgroundChronic myocardial injury is a condition defined by stably elevated cardiac biomarkers without acute myocardial ischemia. Although studies from high-income countries have reported that chronic myocardial injury predicts adverse prognosis, there are no published data about the condition in sub-Saharan Africa. MethodsBetween November 2020 and January 2023, adult patients with chest pain or shortness of breath were recruited fr...

Anti-TNF (adalimumab) injection for the treatment of pain-predominant early-stage frozen shoulder: the Anti-Freaze-Feasibility randomised controlled trial
Conclusion This study demonstrated that current NHS musculoskeletal physiotherapy settings yielded only small numbers of participants, too few to make a trial viable. This was because many patients had passed the early stage of frozen shoulder or had already formulated a preference for treatment. Trial registration number ISRCTN 27075727, EudraCT 2021-03509-23, ClinicalTrials.gov NCT05299242 (REC 21/NE/0214). (Source: BMJ Open)

Chiropractic spinal manipulation and likelihood of tramadol prescription in adults with radicular low back pain: a retrospective cohort study using US data
Conclusions This study found that US adults initially receiving CSM for radicular LBP had a reduced likelihood of receiving a tramadol prescription over 1-year follow-up. These findings should be corroborated by a prospective study to minimise residual confounding. (Source: BMJ Open)

Evaluating the effect of a mobile-based symptom monitoring system for improving physical function in patients with cancer during chemotherapy: study protocol for a multicentre randomised controlled trial
This study is a multicentre, open-label, parallel-group, randomised controlled trial. We will recruit 372 patients at three tertiary hospitals located in Seoul, South Korea. Study participants will be randomly assigned to either an intervention group receiving the ePRO-CTCAE app and a control group receiving routine clinical practice only. The primary outcome is changes in physical function from commencement to completion of planned chemotherapy. A linear mixed model will be performed under the intention-to-treat principle. The secondary outcomes include physical activity level; changes in pain interference; changes in dep...
