Narcotic prescribing practices in shoulder surgery before and after the institution of narcotic e-prescribing
CONCLUSION: Our study demonstrated a significant reduction in total MMEs prescribed overall, for all shoulder surgeries, and for the majority of our institution's providers in the postoperative period following the e-scripting implementation in July 2019. E-scripting is a valuable tool in conjunction with education and awareness on the national, institutional, provider, and patient levels to combat the opioid epidemic.PMID:38706676 | PMC:PMC11065727 | DOI:10.1016/j.xrrt.2024.01.004 (Source: Pain Physician)

Correlations Between Acute Coronary Syndrome and Novel Inflammatory Markers (Systemic Immune-Inflammation Index, Systemic Inflammation Response Index, and Aggregate Index of Systemic Inflammation) in Patients with and without Diabetes or Prediabetes
CONCLUSION: The findings suggest that the aforementioned inflammatory markers may have potential for distinguishing DM/preDM patients at higher risk of ACS at a low financial cost. However, further comprehensive and well-designed research is required to validate their clinical utility.PMID:38707954 | PMC:PMC11067916 | DOI:10.2147/JIR.S454117 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

Developing and Implementing a Patient-Centered Opioid Prescribing Algorithm among Gynecological Oncology Patients
Conclusions: Opioids were substantially overprescribed in gynecological oncology patients undergoing hysterectomy. Our study found that the surgical route and last 24-hour MME inpatient usage were reliable predictors of outpatient opioid use. We developed and implemented a standardized opioid prescription algorithm that was validated by comparing the pain control measures in the two phases.PMID:38709003 | DOI:10.1089/jwh.2023.0998 (Source: Cancer Control)
