Diagnostic performance of contrast ‐enhanced mammography for suspicious findings in dense breasts: A systematic review and meta‐analysis
ConclusionCEM has high diagnostic performance in the workup of suspicious findings in dense breasts, and when lesions are enhanced and have irregular margins, they are often malignant. (Source: Cancer Medicine)

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1640: Histological Patterns and Mammographic Presentation of Invasive Lobular Carcinoma Show No Obvious Associations
őző Invasive lobular carcinoma of the breast has different mammographic appearances, including spiculated or lobulated masses, architectural distortion, increased breast density, and the possibility of also being occult. Histologically, the morphology is also variable, as several patterns have been described beside the classical one, including the solid, the alveolar, the trabecular, the one with tubular elements, and others. Of 146 ILC cases, 141 were reviewed for mammographic appearance and 136 for histological patterns by two radiologist and two pathologists, respectively; 132 common cases were analyzed for possib...

ESR Essentials: screening for breast cancer - general recommendations by EUSOBI
AbstractBreast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women accounting for about 30% of all new cancer cases and the incidence is constantly increasing. Implementation of mammographic screening has contributed to a reduction in breast cancer mortality of at least 20% over the last 30 years. Screening programs usually include all women irrespective of their risk of developing breast cancer and with age being the only determining factor. This approach has some recognized limitations, including underdiagnosis, false positive cases, and overdiagnosis. Indeed, breast cancer remains a major cause of cancer-related dea...

Disentangling the relationships of body mass index and circulating sex hormone concentrations in mammographic density using Mendelian randomization
ConclusionOur findings support a positive causal association between BMI and mammographic non-dense area and an inverse association between BMI and dense area. Evidence was weaker and inconsistent for a causal effect of circulating sex hormone concentrations on mammographic density phenotypes. Based on our findings, associations between circulating sex hormone concentrations and mammographic density phenotypes are weak at best. (Source: Breast Cancer Research and Treatment)

County Mammogram Uptake can be Predicted from Social Determinants of Health, but Patterns Do Not Hold for Individual Patients
CONCLUSION: This study demonstrates that social determinants in the SVI can explain much of the variance in county breast cancer screening rates. However, these same patterns fail to discriminate which patients will have timely follow through of a mammogram screening test. This study also concludes that the core association between increased screening and decreased age adjusted mortality does not hold in high proportion minority areas.OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study is to describe patterns in social determinants of health and their association with female breast cancer screening uptake, age adjusted breast cancer mo...

Vital Signs: Mammography Use and Association with Social Determinants of Health and Health-Related Social Needs Among Women - United States, 2022
CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS FOR PUBLIC HEALTH PRACTICE: Identifying specific adverse SDOH and HRSNs that women experience and coordinating activities among health care providers, social services, community organizations, and public health programs to provide services that help address these needs might increase mammography use and ultimately decrease breast cancer deaths.PMID:38652735 | PMC:PMC11037433 | DOI:10.15585/mmwr.mm7315e1 (Source: MMWR Morb Mortal Wkl...)

Cancer-Related Health and Educational Needs and Faith-Based Health Beliefs in an Urban Muslim Population
AbstractCancer screening behaviors in Muslims are under-researched, and there is limited data on how it relates to their unique cultural and religious beliefs. We assessed cancer prevention and screening-related health needs in the Washington DC area. We developed the needs assessment questionnaires and recruitment strategy in collaboration with key faith leaders from four mosques in our catchment area. A total of 203 participants were recruited through community outreach and engagement approaches and were included in the discussion when developing the needs assessment to ensure questions were religiously and culturally se...

Breast density quantification in dual-energy mammography using virtual anthropomorphic phantoms
CONCLUSIONS: Our results in virtual phantoms indicate that the material decomposition method can produce accurate VBD measurements if the presence of a third material (skin) is considered. The results from our proof of concept showed agreement between MRI and dual-energy mammography VBD. Assessment of VBD using dual-energy images could provide complementary information in dual-energy mammography and tomosynthesis examinations.PMID:38648734 | DOI:10.1002/acm2.14360 (Source: Clinical Breast Cancer)
