Sensors, Vol. 24, Pages 2076: MAM-E: Mammographic Synthetic Image Generation with Diffusion Models
Martí Generative models are used as an alternative data augmentation technique to alleviate the data scarcity problem faced in the medical imaging field. Diffusion models have gathered special attention due to their innovative generation approach, the high quality of the generated images, and their relatively less complex training process compared with Generative Adversarial Networks. Still, the implementation of such models in the medical domain remains at an early stage. In this work, we propose exploring the use of diffusion models for the generation of high-quality, full-field digital mammograms using state-of-the...

Physical and dosimetric characterisation of different Contrast-Enhanced digital mammographic systems: A multicentric study
CONCLUSION: The subtracted image showed the ability of all the systems to give important information about the linearity of the signal with the iodine concentrations. All the patient-collected doses were under the AGD EUREF 2D Acceptable limit, except for patients with thicknesses ≤35 mm belonging to GE Healthcare and Hologic, which were slightly over. This work demonstrates the importance of testing each CEDM system to know how it performs regarding dose and the relationship between PV and iodine concentration.PMID:38520889 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejmp.2024.103334 (Source: Cancer Control)

Radiation-Induced Breast Angiosarcoma: Updates on a Rare Disease
AbstractPurpose of ReviewAlthough rare, breast angiosarcoma imparts poor outcomes relative to other breast malignancies. Here, we review the current literature focusing on radiation-induced angiosarcoma of the breast (RIA), a subset of secondary breast angiosarcoma.Recent FindingsThe risk of developing RIA increases with time after radiation therapy, and incidence is expected to increase. Cross-sectional imaging with MRI or CT has a higher sensitivity for RIA detection than ultrasound and mammography studies. The clinical outcomes of RIA are improving with the use of wide resections and systemic chemotherapy, with up to an...

Physical and dosimetric characterisation of different Contrast-Enhanced digital mammographic systems: A multicentric study
Breast cancer has become the most common and prevalent cancer worldwide, accounting for 1 in 8 cancer diagnoses in 2020, and it represents a significant health burden, particularly in developing countries [1 –4]. Early cancer detection is critical, and low-energy mammography (MG) has optimised breast tissue visualisation since the early 20th century. Technological and scientific advancements, including the digital transition in the 2000s, further improved MG with the introduction of digital detectors counting incident photons. Long-term outcome of 9G MRI-guided vacuum-assisted breast biopsy: results of 293 single-center procedures and underestimation rate of high-risk lesions over 12  years
ConclusionOur results confirm that 1.5  T and 3 T MRI-guided VABB is an accurate and safe procedure for histopathologic final diagnosis of MRI-only lesions. Critical issues remain the potential high-risk underestimation rate of B3b VABB results and management of follow-up of benign lesions. (Source: La Radiologia Medica)

Artificial Intelligence for Breast Cancer Risk Assessment
Breast cancer risk prediction models based on common clinical risk factors are used to identify women eligible for high-risk screening and prevention. Unfortunately, these models have only modest discriminatory accuracy with disparities in performance in underrepresented race and ethnicity groups. The field of artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning are rapidly advancing the field of breast cancer risk prediction with the development of mammography-based AI breast cancer risk models. Early studies suggest mammography-based AI risk models may perform better than traditional risk factor-based models with more equitabl...
