Feasibility of Omitting Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy in an Under-screened Cohort of Breast Cancer Patients With a Premastectomy Diagnosis of Ductal Carcinoma In Situ
CONCLUSION: In a cohort who had DCIS diagnosis before mastectomy and were mostly symptomatic, the upgrade rate was 51.3%. Despite the high upgrade rate, nodal involvement remained comparable. Risk factors could select patients for omission of upfront SLNB, with a delayed SLNB planned if needed.PMID:38458843 | DOI:10.1016/j.clbc.2024.02.002 (Source: Clinical Breast Cancer)

Mammographic surveillance after breast cancer
Br J Radiol. 2024 Mar 6:tqae043. doi: 10.1093/bjr/tqae043. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEarly detection of local recurrence has been shown to improve survival. What is unclear is how frequently mammography should be performed, how long surveillance should continue and how the answers to these questions vary with tumour pathology, patients age and surgery type. Many of these questions are not directly answerable from the current literature. While some of these questions will be answered by the Mammo50 study, evidence from local recurrence rates, tumour biology and the lead time of mammography can be used to guide policy. Y...

Cigarette smoking and mammographic breast density in post-menopausal women from the EPIC Florence cohort
DiscussionThis longitudinal study confirms the inverse association between active smoking, a known risk factor for BC, and MBD among post-menopausal women. The inclusion of smoking habits in the existing BC risk prediction models could be evaluated in future studies. (Source: Frontiers in Oncology)

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1086: Clinicopathological and Genomic Identification of Breast Cancers with No Impact on Mortality
Conclusion. Patients with nonpalpable breast cancer found at screening with negative nodes are at very low risk. It is possible to identify subgroups without metastatic events by determining the intrinsic subtype and tumor size less than 1 cm. Therefore, de-escalation of treatment should be considered. Tumor Doubling Time and Screening Interval
This article reviews breast cancer doubling time by tumor subtype and examines the impact of doubling time on breast cancer screening intervals. By th e article’s end, the reader will be better equipped to have informed discussions with patients and medical professionals regarding the benefits and disadvantages of the currently recommended screening mammography intervals. Breast Density
Breast density refers to the amount of fibroglandular tissue relative to fat on mammography and is determined either qualitatively through visual assessment or quantitatively. It is a heritable and dynamic trait associated with age, race/ethnicity, body mass index, and hormonal factors. Increased breast density has important clinical implications including the potential to mask malignancy and as an independent risk factor for the development of breast cancer. Breast density has been incorporated into breast cancer risk models. Given the impact of dense breasts on the interpretation of mammography, supplemental screening ma...

Identify risk factors affecting participation of Turkish women in mammography screening for breast cancer prevention
ConclusionSince adherence to mammography increases with age, it is recommended to pay importance to education for women approaching the age of mammography screening. Educated individuals are expected to have access to multiple sources of information as to cancer and to access this information more easily. In order to gain more insight into the recommended preventive measures and outcomes related to cancer, it is suggested to review policies, which will increase the educational level of women, and provide privileges in the field of education. Gestational macromastia complicating pregnancy: A case report of unusual bilateral giant breasts in a patient who had no such problem in her previous pregnancies
We present a case of a 28-year-old G3P2L2 with a gestational age of 29 weeks complaining of massive bilateral breast enlargement for 6 months, accompanied by a threatened abortion. The masses began gradually after conception and increased gradually over time. Notably, the breasts had been unremarkable in her two previous pregnancies. The breast ultrasonography and mammography findings pointed to a benign neoplasm. Histopathology of the lesions reported bilateral ductal hyperplasia. Conservative management and close follow-up were initiated. A cesarean section was performed due to cord prolapse, and a 1.3 kg male baby was e...

Predictors of re-attendance at biennial screening mammography following a false positive referral: A study among women in the south of the Netherlands
CONCLUSION: Women with a FP referral are less likely to re-attend the screening programme if this referral occurs at their first screening round or when they undergo invasive diagnostic workup. Hospitals and screening organizations should prioritize informing women about the importance of re-attending the programme following a FP referral.PMID:38447293 | DOI:10.1016/j.breast.2024.103702 (Source: Breast)
