Spaced double hydrogen bonding for highly efficient and selective photocatalytic air reductive H2O2 synthesis
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2024 Feb 14:e202400857. doi: 10.1002/anie.202400857. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPhotocatalytic oxygen reductive H2O2 production is a promising approach to alternative industrial anthraquinone processes while suffering from the requirement of pure O2 feedstock for practical application. Herein, we report a spaced double hydrogen bond (IC-H-bond) through multi-component Radziszewski reaction in an imidazole poly-ionic-liquid composite (SI-PIL-TiO2) and levofloxacin hydrochloride (LEV) electron donor for highly efficient and selective photocatalytic air reductive H2O2 production. It is found that th...

Identifying the Best Initial Oral Antibiotics for Adults with Community-Acquired Pneumonia: A Network Meta-Analysis
ConclusionWe observed trends toward a better clinical response and lower mortality for quinolones as empiric antibiotics for CAP, but found no conclusive evidence of any antibiotic being clearly more effective than another. More trials are needed to inform guideline recommendations on the most effective antibiotic regimens for outpatients with mild to moderate CAP. (Source: Journal of General Internal Medicine)

Cu < sub > 2 < /sub > O/WO < sub > 3 < /sub > S-scheme heterojunctions for photocatalytic degradation of levofloxacin based on coordination activation
Chemosphere. 2024 Feb 12:141446. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2024.141446. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHeterogeneous photocatalytic degradation of antibiotic involves the activation of antibiotic molecules and the photocatalytic oxidation process. However, the simultaneous improvement of these processes is still a challenge. Herein, S-scheme heterojunctions consisted of Cu2O nanocluster with defective WO3 nanosheets were constructed for efficient photocatalytic degradation of levofloxacin (LVX). The typical CNS-5 composite (5 wt% Cu2O/WO3) achieves an optimal LVX degradation efficiency of 97.9% within 80 min. The spatial c...

Biomass ‐Derived Carbon Quantum Dots Chemical Bonding with Sn‐Doped Bi2O2CO3 Endowed Fast Carriers’ Dynamics and Stabilized Oxygen Vacancies for Efficient Decontamination of Combined Pollutants
Bagasse-derived carbon quantum dots are loaded on the Sn(IV)-doped Bi2O2CO3 via hydrothermal procedure to create Bi ─O─C chemical bonding at the interface, which not only provide efficient atomic-level interfacial electron channels for accelerating carriers transfer, but also replace the oxygen vacancies as a new molecular oxygen adsorption site to improve the durability of the oxygen vacancies. AbstractSurface defects on photocatalysts could promote carrier separation and generate unsaturated sites for chemisorption and reactant activation. Nevertheless, the inactivation of oxygen vacancies (OVs) would deteriorate cat...

Phenotypic heterogeneity unveils a negative correlation between antibiotic resistance and quorum sensing in Pseudomonas aeruginosa clinical isolates
In this study, 67 P. aeruginosa strains were isolated from the lungs of 14 patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, followed by determining their genetic relationship, QS-related phenotypes and resistance to commonly used antibiotics. The integrity of P. aeruginosa QS system was checked by DNA sequencing. The relationship between the QS system and antibiotic resistance was then assessed by correlation analyses. The function of the LasR protein and bacterial virulence were evaluated through homology modeling and nematode-infection assay. The influence of antibiotic on the development of extracellular protease pr...
