Effects of antibiotics ceftriaxone and levofloxacin on the growth of Protophormia terraenovae (Diptera: Calliphoridae)
In this study the effects of different concentrations of antibiotics levofloxacin and ceftriaxone on maggot development, weight, length, and mortality were examined. The maggot length and weight were significantly increased by therapeutical doses of levofloxacin and ceftriaxone. The maggot development time was significantly decreased in every levofloxacin treatment compared to the control. The time to start pupation was significantly increased in the control compared to the antibiotic treatments. Levofloxacin significantly increased the survivability of the maggots. Every levofloxacin treatment significantly improved the r...

Hemorrhagic bronchitis caused by carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii infection: A case report
Respir Med Case Rep. 2024 Mar 13;48:102010. doi: 10.1016/j.rmcr.2024.102010. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTCarbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CR-AB) is rarely found in community respiratory infections, and there are currently no reports of hemorrhagic bronchitis caused by its infection. This work presents a case of bronchial bleeding in a diabetic patient who acquired a community-acquired infection of CR-AB. Treatment with levofloxacin was unsuccessful, as the patient's hemoptysis symptoms recur. The patient was treated with minocycline based on the drug sensitivity test, resulting in the disappearance of hemoptysis ...

< em > In vitro < /em > development of resistance against antipseudomonal agents: comparison of novel β-lactam/β-lactamase inhibitor combinations and other β-lactam agents
Antimicrob Agents Chemother. 2024 Mar 25:e0136323. doi: 10.1128/aac.01363-23. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe subjected seven P. aeruginosa isolates to a 10-day serial passaging against five antipseudomonal agents to evaluate resistance levels post-exposure and putative resistance mechanisms in terminal mutants were analyzed by whole-genome sequencing analysis. Meropenem (mean, 38-fold increase), cefepime (14.4-fold), and piperacillin-tazobactam (52.9-fold) terminal mutants displayed high minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values compared to those obtained after exposure to ceftolozane-tazobactam (11.4-fold) and cefta...

Insights into levofloxacin adsorption with machine learning models using nano-composite hydrochars
Chemosphere. 2024 Mar 22:141746. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2024.141746. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHydrothermal carbonization was applied to taro peel wastes to produce hydrochars in a facile environmentally friendly process. Four different entities were prepared: hydrochar (TPh), phosphoric-activated hydrochar (P-TPh) and silver@hydrochars (Ag@TPh, Ag@P-TPh). The elemental compositions of the single and composite hydrochars were confirmed by EDX. Among the produced hydrochars, the morphology of the Ag@hydrochar composites demonstrated more wrinkled structure and Ag nanoparticles decorated the surface. The optimal expe...

Mechanistic study of the electrochemical oxidation of fluoroquinolones: Ciprofloxacin, danofloxacin, enoxacin, levofloxacin and lomefloxacin
Chemosphere. 2024 Mar 22:141763. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2024.141763. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe fluoroquinolones ciprofloxacin, danofloxacin, enoxacin, levofloxacin and lomefloxacin, occur in water bodies worldwide and therefore pose a threat to the aquatic environment. Advanced purification procedures, such as electrochemical oxidation, may act as a remedy since they contribute to eliminating contaminants and prevent micropollutants from entering open water bodies. By electrochemical treatment in a micro-flow reactor equipped with a boron-doped diamond (BDD) electrode, the fluoroquinolones were efficiently degr...

Erbium(III) complexes with fluoroquinolones: Structure and biological properties
J Inorg Biochem. 2024 Mar 15;255:112525. doi: 10.1016/j.jinorgbio.2024.112525. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFour erbium(III) complexes with the fluoroquinolones enrofloxacin, levofloxacin, flumequine and sparfloxacin as ligands were synthesized and characterized by a wide range of physicochemical and spectroscopic techniques as well as single-crystal X-ray crystallography. The compounds were evaluated for their activity against the bacterial strains Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli and Xanthomonas campestris, which was higher than that of the corresponding free quinolones. The interaction mode of...
