A multicenter clinical epidemiology of pediatric pneumococcal meningitis in China: results from the Chinese Pediatric Bacterial Meningitis Surveillance (CPBMS) 2019 –2020
ConclusionPediatric PM is more common in children aged 3 months to < 3 years old. Intracranial complications mostly occur in children < 1 year of age with fever being the most common clinical manifestations and subdural effusion and (or) empyema and hydrocephalus being the most common complications, respectively. CSF non-culture methods can facilitate improving the detection rate of pathogenic bacteria. More than 10% of PM children had adverse outcomes. S. pneumoniae strains are susceptible to vancomycin, linezolid, ertapenem, levofloxacin, moxifloxacin, rifampicin, and chloramphenicol. (Source: Frontiers in cellular...

Exploring variations in recommended first ‐choice therapy for complicated urinary tract infections in males: Insights from outpatient settings across age, race, and ethnicity
ConclusionsNearly half of the patients included in this study did not receive recommended first-choice therapies; however, racial and ethnic disparities were not identified. Underutilization of recommended first-choice antibiotic therapy in complicated UTIs continues to be an area of focus for antimicrobial stewardship programs. Incidence, characteristics, and risk factors of drug-associated muscle adverse reaction: a retrospective real-world study of inpatients
ConclusionHealthcare professionals should be vigilant with patients exhibiting the identified risk factors. Monitoring creatine kinase and related indices when using myotoxic drugs is crucial to preventing serious adverse reactions, ultimately preserving patients ’ quality of life. Isolation, Identification, Antimicrobial Resistance, Genotyping, and Whole-Genome Sequencing Analysis of < em > Salmonella < /em > Enteritidis Isolated from a Food-Poisoning Incident
Pol J Microbiol. 2024 Mar 4;73(1):69-89. doi: 10.33073/pjm-2024-008. eCollection 2024 Mar 1.ABSTRACTSalmonella enterica is a common pathogen in humans and animals that causes food poisoning and infection, threatening public health safety. We aimed to investigate the genome structure, drug resistance, virulence characteristics, and genetic relationship of a Salmonella strain isolated from patients with food poisoning. The pathogen strain 21A was collected from the feces of patients with food poisoning, and its minimum inhibitory concentration against commonly used antibiotics was determined using the strip test and Kirby-Ba...
