Mechanistic study of the electrochemical oxidation of fluoroquinolones: Ciprofloxacin, danofloxacin, enoxacin, levofloxacin and lomefloxacin
Chemosphere. 2024 Mar 22:141763. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2024.141763. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe fluoroquinolones ciprofloxacin, danofloxacin, enoxacin, levofloxacin and lomefloxacin, occur in water bodies worldwide and therefore pose a threat to the aquatic environment. Advanced purification procedures, such as electrochemical oxidation, may act as a remedy since they contribute to eliminating contaminants and prevent micropollutants from entering open water bodies. By electrochemical treatment in a micro-flow reactor equipped with a boron-doped diamond (BDD) electrode, the fluoroquinolones were efficiently degr...

Erbium(III) complexes with fluoroquinolones: Structure and biological properties
J Inorg Biochem. 2024 Mar 15;255:112525. doi: 10.1016/j.jinorgbio.2024.112525. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFour erbium(III) complexes with the fluoroquinolones enrofloxacin, levofloxacin, flumequine and sparfloxacin as ligands were synthesized and characterized by a wide range of physicochemical and spectroscopic techniques as well as single-crystal X-ray crystallography. The compounds were evaluated for their activity against the bacterial strains Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli and Xanthomonas campestris, which was higher than that of the corresponding free quinolones. The interaction mode of...

Increasing incidence of contact-lens-related < em > Acanthamoeba < /em > keratitis in a tertiary ophthalmology department in an Italian population
CONCLUSION: Although PCR is the most common method used, the increased incidence of AK could mainly be related to a proper IVCM interpretation. A broad-spectrum antibiotic, such as levofloxacin might play a role in the early treatment of AK reducing the virulence of the amoeba.PMID:38509758 | DOI:10.1177/11206721241242165 (Source: European Journal of Ophthalmology)
