UPLC/Q-TOF-MS-based metabolomics and molecular docking analysis of Bifidobacterium adolescentis exposure to levofloxacin
Biomed Chromatogr. 2024 Apr 29:e5862. doi: 10.1002/bmc.5862. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAntibiotic-associated diarrhea is a common adverse reaction caused by the widespread use of antibiotics. The decrease in probiotics is one of the reasons why antibiotics cause drug-induced diarrhea. However, few studies have addressed the intrinsic mechanism of antibiotics inhibiting probiotics. To investigate the underlying mechanism of levofloxacin against Bifidobacterium adolescentis, we used a metabolomics mass spectrometry-based approach and molecular docking analysis for a levofloxacin-induced B. adolescentis injury model. The ...

Detection of metallo-beta-lactamase-producing genes < em > bla < /em > < sub > SPM < /sub > and < em > bla < /em > < sub > NDM < /sub > in < em > Pseudomonas aeruginosa < /em > isolated from wastewater in Southern Brazil
The objective of this study was to investigate genes encoding metallo-beta-lactamases (MBLs), which confer resistance to carbapenems, in wastewater. Fifteen isolates of P. aeruginosa were collected for five months from samples obtained from a municipal wastewater treatment plant in Rio Grande do Sul. These isolates were subjected to disk diffusion testing using 10 different antimicrobials. Phenotypic enzymatic tests for MBLs were conducted, and positive isolates underwent DNA extraction and gene detection using the polymerase chain reaction. The resistance rate to ceftazidime was 100%, cefepime 73.3%, piperacillin-tazobact...

A Case of Thyroid Gland Abscess Caused by Brucella melitensis
Mikrobiyol Bul. 2024 Apr;58(2):217-223. doi: 10.5578/mb.20249810.ABSTRACTBrucellosis is a zoonotic disease endemic in many developing countries, including Türkiye. Among the species that are pathogenic for humans; Brucella melitensis is isolated from livestock animals like sheep and goats, Brucella abortus from cattle and Brucella suis from pigs. Laboratory diagnosis of infection caused by Brucella species with gram-negative coccobacillus morphology; can be made through characteristic culture features, serological tests and molecular methods. Brucellosis, which has a wide distribution of clinical signs and symptoms; can c...

Molecular Analysis of Antibiotic Resistance in CarbapenemResistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa Isolates Isolated from Clinical Samples
In this study, it was aimed to investigate the molecular epidemiology of 47 carbapenem resistant P.aeruginosa (CRPA) isolates derived from various clinical samples from the Central Laboratory Bacteriology Unit of Kocaeli University Research and Training Hospital between October 2021 and March 2023. The rates of resistance to the antibiotics, some carbapenemase and virulence genes, conjugative resistance plasmids, integron gene cassette contents and the clonal similarity of the isolates were investigated and then epidemiologically evaluated. In the study, identification of the bacterial isolates and their susceptibility to ...

Blending polydopamine-derived imprinted polymers with rice straw-based fluorescent carbon dots for selective detection and adsorptive removal of ibuprofen
Int J Biol Macromol. 2024 Apr 25:131765. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2024.131765. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDual-functioning probes capable of detecting and removing hazardous substances have recently received increased attention compared to exclusive sensory probes. Herein, a new composite is synthesized by blending polydopamine imprinted polymers with fluorescent carbon dots (PIP-FCDs) for the selective recognition and adsorption of Ibuprofen (IBF), which is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug and is excessively released in the pharmaceutical wastes. The PIP-FCDs consist of confined pockets for encasing IBF and generat...

Dissemination, virulence characteristic, antibiotic resistance determinants of emerging linezolid and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus spp. in fish and crustacean
In conclusion, the emergence of linezolid-resistant -vancomycin-resistant enterococci recovered from Egyptian fish and shrimp, suggests that fish and seafood might participate a fundamental part in the emergence of antimicrobial resistance among humans.PMID:38677237 | DOI:10.1016/j.ijfoodmicro.2024.110711 (Source: International Journal of Food Microbiology)
