GABA ‐modulating phytomedicines for anxiety: A systematic review of preclinical and clinical evidence
Anxiety disorders are chronic and functionally disabling conditions with high psychological stress, characterised by cognitive symptoms of excessive worry and focus difficulties and physiological symptoms such as muscle tension and insomnia. Gamma‐aminobutyric acid (GABA) is an inhibitory neurotransmitter within the central nervous system and is a key target of pharmacotherapies in the treatment of anxiety. Although current pharmaceutical treatments are often efficacious, they may cause undesirable side effects including cognitive decrements and withdrawal symptoms. Plant‐based “phytomedicines” may provide novel tr...

Reproductive outcomes in recipients are not associated with oocyte donor body mass index up to 28  kg/m2: a cohort study of 2722 cycles
Publication date: Available online 15 August 2017 Source:Reproductive BioMedicine Online Author(s): Francisca Martínez, Alejandro Kava-Braverman, Elisabet Clúa, Ignacio Rodríguez, Sofia Gaggiotti Marre, Buenaventura Coroleu, Pedro N. Barri The effect of increasing donor body mass index (BMI) on clinical pregnancies was retrospectively analysed in a cohort of consecutive 2722 donor oocyte IVF cycles. The relationship between donor BMI and clinical pregnancies was assessed after adjusting for recipient BMI. Clinical pregnancy rates and live birth rates (LBR) were no different with increasing donor BMI (up to dono...

The In Vitro and In Vivo Antiangiogenic Effects of Flavokawain B
Angiogenesis is implicated in the development of a variety of pathological processes, most commonly cancer. It is essential for tumor growth and metastasis, making it an important cancer therapeutic target. Naturally occurring substances have led to the discovery of anticancer agents. Flavokawain B (FKB), a chalcone isolated from the root extracts of kava‐kava plant, inhibits proliferation and causes apoptosis in vitro and in vivo of various cancer cell lines. The antimetastatic potential of FKB has also been suggested. In our study, we confirm the antiangiogenic action of FKB in vitro and, for the first time, demonstrat...

Kava-241 Reduced Periodontal Destruction in a Collagen Antibody Primed Porphyromonas gingivalis Model of Periodontitis.
CONCLUSION: Priming with type-II collagen antibody with oral gavage is a fast and reproducible model of periodontal destruction adequate for the evaluation of novel therapeutics. The effect of Kava-241 shows promise in the prevention and treatment of inflammation and alveolar bone loss associated with periodontitis. Further experiments are required to determine molecular pathways targeted by this therapeutic agent. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.
