In vitro inhibition of carboxylesterase 1 by Kava (Piper methysticum) Kavalactones
This study investigated the inhibition effects of kava and its kavalactones on carboxylesterase 1 (CES1) in an in vitro system and established associated kinetic parameters. Kava and its kavalactones were found to produce reversible inhibition of CES1 to varying degrees. Kavain, dihydrokavain, and desmethoxyyangonin displayed competitive type inhibition, while methysticin, dihydromethysticin, and yangonin displayed a mixed competitive-noncompetitive type inhibition. The inhibition constants (Ki) values for each of the kavalactones were as follows: methysticin (35.2 μM), dihydromethysticin (68.2 μM), kavain (81.6 μM), di...

Pathways to Employee Outcomes in a Workplace Health Promotion Program
CONCLUSION: Our findings support broader dissemination of EBIs for physical activity and healthy eating, as well as more focus on improving employer support for employee health. They also suggest we need better interventions for cancer screening and tobacco cessation.PMID:34983199 | DOI:10.1177/08901171211066898 (Source: American Journal of Health Promotion : AJHP)

An Attempt to Estimate the Noises in Homeopathic Pathogenetic Trials by Employing the Jaccard Similarity Index and Noise Index
CONCLUSION: The Jaccard similarity index and the Noise index might be considered an additional approach for analyzing the symptoms of the placebo group as a comparator, resulting in better noise segregation in homeopathic pathogenetic trials.PMID:34959246 | DOI:10.1055/s-0041-1735983 (Source: Homeopathy)
