Bone parameters of elite athletes with oligomenorrhea and prevalence seeking medical attention: a cross-sectional study
ConclusionMore than 40% of the elite-level female track and field athletes in this study reported menstrual disorders with oligomenorrhea as the most common. However, none sought medical attention. As compared to the eumenorrheic athletes, the oligomenorrheic athletes had lower BMC and BMD. Hence, if an athlete is oligomenorrheic, bone parameter measurements are considerably important. Long-term pretreatment with alendronate inhibits calvarial defect healing in an osteoporotic rat model
ConclusionThe present study shows that long-term pretreatment with alendronate inhibited calvarial defect healing in osteoporotic rats, and this effect could not be reversed by stopping alendronate, switching to parathyroid hormone, or combining with once-weekly parathyroid hormone. Modifiable lifestyle factors associated with fragility hip fracture: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionModifiable factors may be utilized clinically to provide more effective lifestyle interventions for at risk populations. We found that low weight and underweight BMI carried the highest risk, followed by high coffee consumption, inactivity, weight loss, and high daily alcohol consumption. Early adverse events after the first administration of zoledronic acid in Japanese patients with osteoporosis
ConclusionOccurrence of APRs might be lesser in clinical practice than in phase 3 clinical trials. Although serum calcium levels decreased in many cases, the decrease could be suppressed by the co-administration of active vitamin D3. (Source: Journal of Bone and Mineral Metabolism)

Stand-up test predicts occurrence of non-traumatic vertebral fracture in outpatient women with osteoporosis
ConclusionThe stand-up test may be useful as a simple screening tool for non-traumatic vertebral fracture in patients with osteoporosis. (Source: Journal of Bone and Mineral Metabolism)

FSH modulated cartilage ECM metabolism by targeting the PKA/CREB/SOX9 pathway
ConclusionsOur results collectively indicated that FSH plays an essential role in the pathogenesis of OA and acts as a crucial mediator. (Source: Journal of Bone and Mineral Metabolism)

Mkx regulates the orthodontic tooth movement via osteoclast induction
ConclusionOrthodontic tooth movement experiments inMkx-deficient rats suggested thatMkx is involved in osteoclast induction at the alveolar bone surface on the compression side. This study reveals the possibility that Mkx plays a mechanosensory role in orthodontic tooth movement by inducing RANKL expression and osteoclastogenesis. Impact of high-load resistance training on bone mineral density in osteoporosis and osteopenia: a meta-analysis
ConclusionThis study suggested that HLRT can be effective in increasing BMD, mainly of LS, in patients with osteoporosis and osteopenia. However, due to high heterogeneity and publication bias, additional studies with a low risk of bias should be conducted to generalize our findings. (Source: Journal of Bone and Mineral Metabolism)

Effects after starting or switching from bisphosphonate to romosozumab or denosumab in Japanese postmenopausal patients
ConclusionsROMO continuously increased BMD for 12  months and performed better than DENO. On the other hand, effects of ROMO switched from BP on BMD of femoral neck and total hip were almost same with DENO. Bone metabolic markers at baseline and changes in TRACP-5b from baseline to 3 months may predict the efficacy of ROMO after 12 months of adm inistration. Osteoporotic patients treated with bisphosphonates do not show the increased mortality observed in those untreated
ConclusionMortality in osteoporotic patients who refused treatment is higher than in osteoporotic patients treated with bisphosphonates. In unadjusted analysis, it was also higher than in non-osteoporotic people; however, this difference disappeared after adjustment for confounding factors. Persistent bone resorption lacunae on necrotic bone distinguish bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of jaw from denosumab-related osteonecrosis

Altered immunolocalization of FGF23 in murine femora metastasized with human breast carcinoma MDA-MB-231 cells
AbstractIntroductionAfter the onset of bone metastasis, tumor cells appear to modify surrounding microenvironments for their benefit, and particularly, the levels of circulating fibroblast growth factor (FGF) 23 in patients with tumors have been highlighted.Materials and methodsWe have attempted to verify if human breast carcinoma MDA-MB-231 cells metastasized in the long bone of nu/nu mice would synthesize FGF23. Serum concentrations of calcium, phosphate (Pi) and FGF23 were measured in control nu/nu mice, bone-metastasized mice, and mice with mammary gland injected with MDA-MB-231 cells mimicking primary mammary tumors.R...
