Cancer –nerve interplay in cancer progression and cancer-induced bone pain
ConclusionIt is suggested that SNs may be a newly-recognized important component of the bone microenvironment that contribute to not only in the pathophysiology of CIBP but also cancer progression in bone and dissemination from bone. Suppression of the activity of bone-innervating SNs, thus, may provide unique opportunities in the treatment of cancer progression and dissemination, as well as CIBP. Distinct dietary risk factors for incident osteoporotic fractures in early and late postmenopausal phase women
ConclusionDistinct dietary risk factors for osteoporotic fractures were identified in early and late postmenopausal phase women. Appropriate nutritional guidance according to patient age will be important for maintaining bone health and quality of life. (Source: Journal of Bone and Mineral Metabolism)

Possible involvement of CXCR3-CXCR6  + CD4 + T cells in Langerhans cell histiocytosis
ConclusionsWe found abundant peripheral blood-activated Th17 cells and high percentages of IL-17-producing cells in osteolytic bone lesions in LCH. This finding, together with the decrease in peripheral blood-activated Th17 cells following chemotherapy, suggests the potential involvement of activated Th17 cells in LCH-related osteolysis. Comparison of different parameters between daily and twice-weekly teriparatide in postmenopausal women with severe osteoporosis
ConclusionsLumbar spine BMD (LS-BMD) was significantly increased. Moreover, ΔLS-BMD in the D-TPTD group was higher than that in the W-TPTD group. This study showed that the persistence, ΔTH-BMD, ΔFN-BMD and incidence of vertebral fractures did not differ between the two groups. (Source: Journal of Bone and Mineral Metabolism)

Peripheral quantitative computed tomography-derived bone parameters in men with impaired fasting glucose and diabetes
ConclusionMen with T2DM had lower total bone area, trabecular area, cortical area and polar stress strain index than the other two groups; however, total density and cortical density were higher. Only one difference was observed between IFG and normoglycaemia; increased tibial cortical density. (Source: Journal of Bone and Mineral Metabolism)

Hip and vertebral fracture risk after initiating antidiabetic drugs in Japanese elderly: a nationwide study
ConclusionsInitiating insulin increased the risk of not only hip fractures but also vertebral fractures. Patients initiating antidiabetic drugs had increased risks of hip and vertebral fractures compared with those initiating biguanide independently for age, gender, polypharmacy, and dementia in the Japanese elderly. Loss of height predicts fall risk in elderly Japanese: a prospective cohort study
ConclusionsWe suggest that height loss of  ≥ 2 cm is a predictor of future falls in older adults, and the combination of height loss and fall experiences may be a useful screening tool for determining fall risk. (Source: Journal of Bone and Mineral Metabolism)

Efficacy of denosumab on bisphosphonate-treated osteoporosis and osteopenia in systemic rheumatic disease patients receiving glucocorticoids
ConclusionSwitching to denosumab demonstrated greater efficacy than continuing bisphosphonates in increasing BMD, inhibiting osteoclast activation, and enhancing patient satisfaction in Japanese bisphosphonate-treated osteoporosis and osteopenia patients with concomitant SRD receiving glucocorticoids.
