Retraction Note to: Effect of RAB31 silencing on osteosarcoma cell proliferation and migration through the Hedgehog signaling pathway
The authors have retracted this article. After publication the authors discovered that they were unable to repeat their results. In this article the authors concluded that silencing the rab31 gene inhibits hedgehog pathway activation, but in the repeated experiments the authors found that the Hedgehog pathway was not activated when the rab31 gene was over-expressed. Hops extract and xanthohumol ameliorate bone loss induced by iron overload via activating Akt/GSK3 β/Nrf2 pathway
ConclusionThese findings indicated hops and xanthohumol could ameliorate bone loss induced by iron overload via activating Akt/GSK3 β/Nrf2 pathway, which brought up a novel sight for senile osteoporosis therapy. (Source: Journal of Bone and Mineral Metabolism)

Alterations in the composition of the gut microbiota affect absorption of cholecalciferol in severe osteoporosis
ConclusionDifferences in the intestinal microecology, especiallyBifidobacterium, are associated with differences in the absorption of cholecalciferol and in the circulating 25(OH)D3 concentration, which may influence the progression of OP to SOP. (Source: Journal of Bone and Mineral Metabolism)

Emerging role of m6A modification in osteogenesis of stem cells
AbstractThe differentiation of stem cells into osteoblasts is a key link in the treatment of bone defects and other orthopedic diseases. N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification, an important post-transcriptional modification, is a methylation that occurs at the N6 site of RNA adenylate. The modification plays a regulatory role in the growth and development of biological individuals, the directional differentiation of stem cells and the occurrence of diseases. It is involved in various processes of the fate decision of stem cells. And it regulates the development and constant renewal of bone and keeps bone homeostasis by cont...

Histone methyltransferase EZH2 in proliferation, invasion, and migration of fibroblast-like synoviocytes in rheumatoid arthritis
ConclusionEZH2 bound to the miR-22-3p promoter and inhibited miR-22-3p expression by upregulating H3K27me3 level, thereby promoting CYR61 expression and inducing the proliferation, migration, and invasion of RA-FLSs. (Source: Journal of Bone and Mineral Metabolism)

Skeletal and gene-regulatory functions of nuclear sex steroid hormone receptors
AbstractThe wide variety of sex hormone actions underlie bone growth and health, and their actions mediate gene regulation by the cognate nuclear receptors. Nuclear androgen and estrogen receptors (AR, and ER α/ERβ) are hormone-dependent and DNA binding- transcription regulatory factors, and gene regulation by sex hormones often accompany with chromatin remodeling under aid of a number of co-regulators. As sex hormone biosynthesis is under highly regulated systemic and local regulations, the skeletal a ctions of sex hormones could be inferred from only the phenotypic abnormalities in skeleton in mouse genetic models defi...

Bone markers and bone mineral density associates with periodontitis in females with poly-cystic ovarian syndrome
ConclusionEnhanced inflammatory thrust by periodontitis increases CTX levels and decreases bone ALP and BMD levels in women with PCOS. Screening PCOS women for periodontal disease and vice versa may have a direct bearing on overall bone health. (Source: Journal of Bone and Mineral Metabolism)

Evaluation of bone health in patients with mucopolysaccharidosis
ConclusionThe low BMDz score prevalence reported with DXA was misleadingly higher in children with MPS and short stature. To prevent exposure to unnecessary antiresorptive treatments in these children, the effect of severe short stature and bone geometry on DXA measurements should be considered; further studies on bone health are warranted.
