Protective effects of berberine on senile osteoporosis in mice
ConclusionThe present results suggest that berberine exerts potent bone protective effects by promoting bone formation, inhibiting marrow fat accumulation and bone resorption. This effect may be achieved through cAMP/PKA/CREB signaling pathway. (Source: Journal of Bone and Mineral Metabolism)

A quality improvement project to address the challenges surrounding zoledronic acid use in children
ConclusionsThe implementation of a standardized protocol for ZA use in children was successful in confirming patient eligibility with pre-infusion bloodwork but failed to ensure that patients obtained post-first-infusion bloodwork and received all prescribed infusions. Further efforts to systematize the management of children on ZA are needed. (Source: Journal of Bone and Mineral Metabolism)

Mapping cortical bone stiffness and mineralization from endosteal to periosteal surfaces of bovine mid-diaphyseal femur
ConclusionStarting from endosteal to periosteal surfaces of mid-diaphyseal bovine femur, it was found that stiffness, mineralization, and HU values all exhibit increasing and correlating trends. (Source: Journal of Bone and Mineral Metabolism)

Differences in subtrochanteric and diaphyseal atypical femoral fractures in a super-aging prefectural area: YamaCAFe Study
ConclusionsThe incidence of AFFs in our prefectural area was 1.43 cases/100,000 persons/year. This study suggests  that the onset of ST AFFs have greater correlation with the worse bone quality, vice versa, the onset of DP AFFs correlated with the bone geometry. The developmental mechanisms of AFFs may differ significantly between ST and DP fractures. (Source: Journal of Bone and Mineral Metabolism)

PTH1-34 promotes osteoblast formation through Beclin1-dependent autophagic activation
ConclusionPTH1-34 can enhance the autophagic activity of osteoblast precursors, which is involved in PTH1-34-regulated osteoblast formation. Furthermore, Beclin1, as a key autophagic regulator, plays a pivotal role in PTH1-34-regulated osteoblast precursor autophagy and osteoblastogenesis. (Source: Journal of Bone and Mineral Metabolism)
