Pediatric gynecology: ovarian teratomas in children
Conclusion: This research found several information deficits in the database of pediatric ovarian teratoma. This subject, overall, has not been fully researched especially with regards to, this cancer and patient population, which require further research. [Ethiop. J. A Rare Case of Immature Sacrococcygeal Teratoma With Lymph Node Metastasis in a Neonate
This is the first report of an immature sacrococcygeal teratoma with inguinal lymph node metastasis, providing the histologic transformation of an immature teratoma in association with chemotherapy. Incomplete tumor resection with coccygectomy was performed, and the histopathologic diagnosis was a grade 3 immature teratoma. Following the initial surgery, the residual tumors enlarged and the tumors metastasized to the inguinal lymph node, demonstrating immature teratoma without yolk sac tumor components. Although the tumor markers normalized after chemotherapy, the residual tumors had enlarged significantly. Therefore, a co...

Fetal Oropharyngeal Teratoma: A Case Report
AbstractOropharyngeal teratomas are extremely rare fetal tumors  and originate from pluripotent stem cells. The tumor typically arises from the palato-pharyngeal region around the basishenoid. These tumors are heterogenous in nature. The reported case was diagnosed at 20 weeks gestation. Ultrasound revealed a heterogenous, lobulated facial mass protruded from the oral cavity without any hypervascularity or intracranial extension. There was no evidence of polyhydromnios. After counseling, the parents opted for termination of pregnancy. Histopathological examination from the exophytic mass was consistent with immature ...

Mediastinal Germ Cell Tumors: A Review and Update on Pathologic, Clinical, and Molecular Features
Mediastinal germ cell tumors (MGCTs) are the most common extragonadal germ cell tumors (GCTs) and most often arise in the anterior mediastinum with a male predilection. MGCTs also have a predilection for patients with Klinefelter syndrome and possibly other genetic conditions. MGCTs, as GCTs at other extragonadal sites, are thought to arise from germ cells improperly retained during migration along the midline during embryogenesis. Similar to their counterparts in the testes, MGCTs are classified into seminomatous and nonseminomatous GCTs. Seminomatous MGCT represents pure seminoma, whereas nonseminomatous MGCTs encompass ...

SALL-4 and Beta-Catenin Expression in Sinonasal Teratocarcinosarcoma
AbstractSinonasal teratocarcinosarcoma (SNTCS) is a rare, aggressive malignancy that displays a heterogeneous combination of malignant blastema-like, epithelial and mesenchymal components. Its exact histogenesis is unknown with hypotheses ranging from true germ cell derivation to origin from pluripotent stem cells. However, despite this tumor ’s multiphenotypic histology, which includes frequent glandular, squamous, and neuroectodermal differentiation similar to adnexal germ cell tumors, SNTCS appears to have some differences from adnexal teratomas. For example, unlike adnexal teratomas, SNTCS has never been described as...

Response to letter entitled: Re: Can we replace adjuvant chemotherapy with surveillance for stage IA-C immature ovarian teratomas of any grade? An international multicenter analysis
We have read with interest the letter to you from Dr Lockley and colleagues [1] published in response to our manuscript entitled ‘Can we replace adjuvant chemotherapy with surveillance for stage IA-C immature ovarian teratomas of any grade? an international multicenter analysis’ that supports surveillance rather than adjuvant chemotherapy in stage I immature teratomas (ITs). This paper was based on the evaluation of the o utcomes of 108 patients with pure ITs, as a result of an international collaboration [2]. (Source: European Journal of Cancer)

Anti-N-Methyl-D-Aspartate Receptor Encephalitis Associated with Ovarian Teratoma in South China-Clinical Features, Treatment, Immunopathology, and Surgical Outcomes of 21 Cases
CONCLUSION: The disease is of high prevalence in autumn and winter. The central hypoventilation symptom and mature ovarian teratomas were associated with surgical outcome. NMDAR-positive neural tissue is not the only etiological factor of encephalitis. We speculate that encephalitis development in some patients may result from NMDAR expression in sebaceous glands and squamous epithelial tissues.PMID:34093900 | PMC:PMC8163540 | DOI:10.1155/2021/9990382 (Source: Disease Markers)

Re: ‘Can we replace adjuvant chemotherapy with surveillance for stage IA-C immature ovarian teratomas of any grade? An international multicenter analysis’
The article by Bergamini et  al. [1] adds to the growing body of evidence supporting surveillance, rather than adjuvant chemotherapy, in the postoperative management of ovarian immature teratomas (IT). Postop surveillance is established for paediatric IT [2–5] yet international guidelines continue to recommend adjuvant chem otherapy for nearly all adults [6,7]. The authors highlight studies suggesting that postoperative surveillance may also be safe for adult patients [8], particularly in stage I disease [9], but rightly point out that clinical evidence is extremely sparse. Extragonadal teratomas in women and adolescent girls: A systematic review
CONCLUSIONS: While rare, EGTs should be considered when evaluating pelviabdominal masses with imaging characteristics consistent with teratomas. Confirmation is usually intraoperative and a laparoscopic approach is reasonable if there is good surgeon comfort and the size is about 5 cm.PMID:34022590 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejogrb.2021.05.005 (Source: Reproductive Biology)
