Teratoma-associated anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis – A case report
Introduction: Teratoma is a germ cell tumor that differentiates toward one or more of the three embryo layers – ectoderm, mesoderm and endoderm. The tissues can be mature or immature, the latter making up less than 1% of ovarian teratomas and frequently containing neural differentiation. Infratentorial immature teratoma of congenital origin can be associated with a 20-year survival outcome: a case report and review of literature
Congenital intracranial tumors are very rare and account for less than 2% of all childhood brain tumors. Teratomas constitute about one third to one half of these, predominantly located midline in the supraten... (Source: World Journal of Surgical Oncology)

Central Nervous System-type Neuroepithelial Tumors and Tumor-like Proliferations Developing in the Gynecologic Tract and Pelvis: Clinicopathologic Analysis of 23 Cases
Central nervous system (CNS)-type tumors and tumor-like proliferations arising in the gynecologic tract and pelvis are rare. Clinicopathologic features of 23 cases are reported using the current WHO classification system for CNS tumors, with selected relevant immunohistochemical and molecular genetic analyses when possible. There were 12 embryonal tumors, including 7 medulloepitheliomas, 2 embryonal tumors (not otherwise specified), 1 embryonal tumor with multilayered rosettes, 1 embryonal tumor with features of nodular desmoplastic medulloblastoma, and 1 medulloblastoma with extensive nodularity, with primary sites includ...

Mature teratoma of the pineal region in the paediatric age group: A case report and review of the literature.
CONCLUSION: A review of the literature and comparison with current case in relation to the histopathologic, serum and CSF findings, and imaging studies was done to better understand the mechanism of this lesion. PMID: 30173236 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Malaysian Journal of Pathology)

Renal immature teratoma in a male adult: A case report and literature review
Rationale: Teratomas commonly arise in the gonads, including ovary and testis. The kidney is one of the most rare regions of primary teratoma. To date, about 19 cases of renal teratoma have been reported, and only 3 articles have reported renal immature teratoma; however, all of them occur in infant or children. In the present study, we reported a renal inmature teratoma in a male adult. Patient concerns: The present patient was a middle-aged man with aching pain in the left waist, and contrast-enhanced CT showed a lump in the left kidney with mild-to-moderate enhancement, and a low density small necrotic area was see...

Malignant tumors in autoimmune encephalitis with anti-NMDA receptor antibodies
ConclusionImmature ovarian teratomas represent 11.8% of all teratomas in patients with NDMAR-Ab encephalitis. The other malignant tumors are mainly observed in elderly patients. The presence of a malignant tumor does not impact the neurological presentation but is directly associated with a higher risk of death. (Source: Journal of Neurology)

Orbital immature teratoma: A rare entity with diagnostic challenges
Publication date: January–March 2018Source: Saudi Journal of Ophthalmology, Volume 32, Issue 1Author(s): Hind M. Alkatan, Omar S. AlObaidan, Hala Kfoury, Yasser H. Al-FakyAbstractChildhood orbital teratomas are congenital lesions that presents most often at birth with progressive, severe unilateral proptosis. Due to the rarity of such tumors, the diagnosis is often missed with delay in the patient's management. We are presenting a unique case of an immature right orbital teratoma with extensive growth in a full-term newly born baby boy. In this case report, we provide description of the clinical findings, initial misdiag...

Presacral tumors of the Currarino triad: teratomas or hamartomas?
Conclusion In the Currarino triad, several clinical and histopathological observations would suggest the excised presacral tumors to be developmental cysts (retrorectal hamartomas) rather than neoplastic teratomas. (Source: Annals of Pediatric Surgery)

Cerebellar Differentiation in Ovarian Teratoma: A Report of 6 Cases
Ovarian teratomas potentially demonstrate a wide range of tissue elements including central nervous system differentiation. The latter can include cerebellar tissue, which in our experience remains an under-recognized phenomenon. In the current study we present a review of 6 ovarian teratomas including 4 mature cystic teratomas and 2 immature teratomas showing cerebellar differentiation. Two cases were seen in consultation because the cerebellar elements were initially misinterpreted as immature teratomas. Two mature cystic teratomas focally demonstrated a distinct cerebellar architecture including folial type structures, ...

Clinicopathological spectrum of teratomas: An 8-year retrospective study from a tertiary care institute
CONCLUSION: Teratomas have much diversity in their age at presentation, location, gross features, and in degree of differentiation. The prognosis and treatment also depends on the histological grading of teratomas. Thus, pathologists have an important role in establishing a reliable prognostic profile. Simultaneous Presentation of Wilms Tumor and Immature Ovarian Teratoma in Beckwith-Wiedemann Syndrome
The Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome is a cancer predisposition syndrome characterized by a predilection to embryonal tumor growth, especially Wilms tumor, adrenocortical carcinomas, and hepatoblastomas. Genetic analysis of patients has revealed a link to the imprinted domain of the 11p15.5 chromosome and methylation status of the H19 locus and Igf-2. These genes have also been studied in other cancers, including ovarian teratomas. Our case is a patient with a simultaneous presentation of a Wilms tumor and immature ovarian teratoma and subsequently diagnosed with Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome, which has not been previously descri...
