Protective effect of Naringin ameliorates TNBS-induced colitis in rats via improving antioxidant status and pro-inflammatory cytokines
This study examined the effect of NG on 2, 4, 6 trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS)-induced colitis in rats. 42 male Wistar rats were divided into seven groups like Normal Control (NC), Ethanol Control (EC), Disease Control (DC), NG 20 (20 mg/kg, p.o.), NG 40 (40 mg/kg, p.o.), NG 80 (80 mg/kg, p.o.) and Dexamethasone (DEX) (2 mg/kg, p.o.). Colitis was induced in Wistar albino rats by administering TNBS intra-rectally (in 50% ethanol). The rats were then given 14 days of NG (20, 40, and 80 mg/kg) and DEX (2 mg/kg) treatment. Several behavioural, biochemical, molecular, and histological analyses were performed. The treatmen...

Antifungal activity of Zinc nitrate derived nano Zno fungicide synthesized from Trachyspermum ammi to control fruit rot disease of grapefruit
Ecotoxicol Environ Saf. 2022 Feb 23;233:113311. doi: 10.1016/j.ecoenv.2022.113311. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGrapefruit (Citrus paradisi) is a widely grown citrus and its fruit is affected by a variety of biotic and abiotic stress. Keeping in view the hazardous effects of synthetic fungicides, the recent trend is shifting towards safer and eco-friendly control of fruit diseases. The present study was aimed to diagnose the fruit rot disease of grapefruit and its control by using zinc oxide green nanoparticles (ZnO NPs). Fruit rot symptoms were observed in various grapefruit growing sites of Pakistan. Diseased samples we...

Biological Activities, Pharmacokinetics and Toxicity of Nootkatone: A Review
Mini Rev Med Chem. 2022 Feb 14. doi: 10.2174/1389557522666220214092005. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPlant-based drugs have a significant impact on modern therapeutics due to their vast array of pharmacological activities. The integration of herbal plants in the current healthcare system has emerged as a new field of research. It can be used for the identification of novel lead compound candidates for future drug development. Nootkatone is a sesquiterpene derivative and an isolate of grapefruit. Shreds of evidence illustrate that nootkatone targets few molecular mechanisms to exhibit its pharmacological activity and yet n...

Micronized cellulose from citrus processing waste using water and electricity only
Int J Biol Macromol. 2022 Feb 11:S0141-8130(22)00278-1. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2022.02.042. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAlong with a water-soluble fraction rich in pectin, the hydrodynamic cavitation of citrus processing waste carried out in water demonstrated directly on semi-industrial scale affords an insoluble fraction consisting of micronized cellulose of low crystallinity ("CytroCell"). Lemon and grapefruit CytroCell respectively consist of 100-500 nm wide cellulose nanorods, and of 500-1000 nm wide ramified microfibrils extending for several μm. These findings establish a technically viable route to low crystall...

Comprehensive review on naringenin and naringin polyphenols as a potent anticancer agent
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2022 Feb 4. doi: 10.1007/s11356-022-18754-6. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThough the incidence of several cancers in Western societies is regulated wisely, some cancers such as breast, lung, and colorectal cancer are currently rising in many low- and middle-income countries due to increased risk factors triggered by societal and development problems. Surgery, chemotherapy, hormone, radiation, and targeted therapies are examples of traditional cancer treatment approaches. However, multiple short- and long-term adverse effects may also significantly affect patient prognosis depending on treatment...

Pharmacokinetics of tacrolimus following an overdose in a patient with extreme obesity and genotype CYP3A5*3/*3: a case report
J Toxicol Sci. 2022;47(2):71-75. doi: 10.2131/jts.47.71.ABSTRACTThis case involved a 27-year-old man with extreme obesity (body mass index 45.6 kg/m2) who had a history of fulminant hepatitis and living-donor liver transplantation at 11 years of age. He had been receiving oral sustained-release tacrolimus (TAC) 1.5 mg daily, and the trough concentration in the blood was below 2.0 ng/mL. He has an intrinsic cytochrome P450 3A5 (CYP3A5)*3/*3 (G/G) genotype and graft liver with CYP3A5*3 allele donated by his biological father. Additionally, there were no data on the phenotype of P-glycoprotein. He did not take medications, gr...
