Thyroid and sex hormone disrupting effects of DEHTP at different life stages of zebrafish (Danio rerio)
Chemosphere. 2024 Apr 22:142105. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2024.142105. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDi(2-ethylhexyl) terephthalate (DEHTP) is an alternative plasticizer widely used in numerous consumer products, replacing di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP). Hence, DEHTP has been frequently detected in the environment and humans. As a structural isomer and functional analog of DEHP, DEHTP is a suspected endocrine disruptor. Here, we evaluated DEHTP thyroid-disrupting effects in embryo-larval and adult male zebrafish. We also investigated sex hormone disruption in the adult zebrafish. After 5- and 7-day exposure to DEHTP, ...

Novel aerobic anoxygenic phototrophic bacterium Jannaschia pagri sp. nov., isolated from seawater around a fish farm
Antonie Van Leeuwenhoek. 2024 Apr 24;117(1):70. doi: 10.1007/s10482-024-01971-z.ABSTRACTThe genus Jannaschia is one of the representatives of aerobic anoxygenic phototrophic (AAP) bacteria, which is a strictly aerobic bacterium, producing a photosynthetic pigment bacteriochlorophyll (BChl) a. However, a part of the genus Jannaschia members have not been confirmed the photosynthetic ability. The partly presence of the ability in the genus Jannaschia could suggest the complexity of evolutionary history for anoxygenic photosynthesis in the genus, which is expected as gene loss and/or horizontal gene transfer. Here a novel AAP...

Dietary lipid sensing through fatty acid oxidation and chylomicron formation in the gastrointestinal tract of rainbow trout
This study, using rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) as model, aimed to characterize the role of FAO and chylomicron formation as peripheral lipid sensors potentially able to modulate feeding in fish. Fish fed with either a normal- (24%) or high- (32%) fat diet were intraperitoneally injected with water alone or containing etomoxir (inhibitor of FAO rate-limiting enzyme carnitine palmitoyl-transferase 1). First, feed intake levels were recorded. We observed an etomoxir-derived decrease in feeding at short times, but a significant increase at 48 h after treatment in fish fed normal-fat diet. Then, we evaluated putative eto...

Contributors : Óscar García-Blay ; Maike HansenSeries Type : Expression profiling by high throughput sequencingOrganism : Mus musculusDifferences in gene-expression profiles between individual cells can give rise to distinct cell fate decisions. Yet how localisation on a micropattern impacts initial changes in mRNA, protein, and phosphoprotein abundance remains unclear. To identify the effect of cellular position on gene expression, we developed a scalable antibody and mRNA targeting sequential fluorescence in situ hybridization (ARTseq-FISH) method capable of simultaneously profiling mRNAs, proteins, and phosphoprotei...
