Assessment of occurrence, partitioning and ecological risk for 144 steroid hormones in Taihu Lake using UPLC-MS/MS with machine learning model
In this study, we developed a highly sensitive analytical method for the simultaneous quantification of 144 SHs to investigate their occurrence, spatial distribution and partitioning in the water and sediment in Taihu Lake. The results showed that the total concentrations of SHs in water and sediment were 366.88-998.23 ng/L (mean: 612.84 ng/L) and 17.46-150.20 ng/g (mean: 63.41 ng/g), respectively. The spatial distribution of SHs in Taihu Lake might be simultaneously influenced by the pollution sources, lake hydrodynamics, and sediment properties. The sediment-water partitioning result implied that 28 SHs were in dynamic e...

Reference data on estrogen metabolome in healthy pregnancy
CONCLUSION: We concluded that (1) the levels of estrogen compounds and metabolites increase with advancing gestational age; (2) the wide ranges of levels challenge the establishment of a healthy reference range for clinical purposes; (3) 17-beta-estradiol is not conjugated significantly; (4) 4-methylation and 17-epimerization pathways of estrogens are negligible with our LC-MS/MS method.PMID:38432490 | DOI:10.1016/j.mcp.2024.101953 (Source: Molecular Medicine)

Multiple treatments with human embryonic stem cell-derived mesenchymal progenitor cells preserved the fertility and ovarian function of perimenopausal mice undergoing natural aging
CONCLUSIONS: Multiple introductions of hESC-MPCs could be a useful approach to prevent female reproductive senescence and that these cells are promising sources for cell therapy to postpone the ovarian aging and retain fecundity in perimenopausal women.PMID:38433223 | DOI:10.1186/s13287-024-03684-6 (Source: Cell Research)

The effect of gonadal hormones on the gene expression of brain-pituitary in protandrous black porgy, Acanthopagrus schlegelii
In this study, we conducted short-term sex steroid treatment and surgery of gonadectomy to evaluate the feedback regulation between the gonads and the brain. The qPCR results show that male phase had the highest gths transcripts; treatment with estradiol-17β (E2) or 17α-methyltestosterone (MT) resulted in the increased pituitary lhb trnscripts. After surgery, apart from gnrh1, there is no difference in brain signaling genes between gonadectomy and sham fish. In the diencephalon/mesencephalon transcriptome, de novo assembly generated 283,528 unigenes; however, only 443 (0.16%) genes showed differentially expressed between...

Using cell culture systems from the Persian Gulf Arabian yellowfin sea bream, Acanthopagrus arabicus, to assess the effects of dexamethasone on gonad and brain aromatase activity and steroid production
In conclusion, results highlight that DEX is able to change the activity of aromatase, and disrupt the biosynthesis of estrogens and thus affect reproduction in fish.PMID:38431060 | DOI:10.1016/j.tiv.2024.105803 (Source: Toxicology in Vitro)

Ningxin-Tongyu-Zishen formula alleviates the senescence of granulosa cells on D-galactose-induced premature ovarian insufficiency mice
Aging (Albany NY). 2024 Feb 28;16. doi: 10.18632/aging.205607. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNingxin-Tongyu-Zishen formula (NTZF) is a clinical experience formula for the treatment of premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and the potential mechanism is unknown. For in vivo experiments, POI mouse models (C57BL/6 mice), were constructed by subcutaneous injection of D-galactose (D-gal, 200 mg/kg). After treatment of NTZF (10.14, 20.27, 40.54 g/kg;) or estradiol valerate (0.15 mg/kg), ovarian function, oxidative stress (OS) and protein expression of Sirt1/p53 were evaluated. For in vitro ...
