Functional analysis, diversity, and distribution of the < em > ean < /em > cluster responsible for 17 < em > β < /em > -estradiol degradation in sphingomonads
In this study, the newly isolated Sphingomonas colocasiae C3-2 could degrade E2 through both the 4,5-seco pathway and the 9,10-seco pathway. The novel gene cluster ean (including eanA, eanB1, eanC, and eanD) responsible for E2 degradation by the 4,5-seco pathway was identified; the novel two-component monooxygenase EanE1E2 can open ring B of 4-OH-E1 through the 9,10-seco pathway. The TetR family transcriptional regulator EanR acts as a transcriptional repressor of the ean cluster. The cluster ean was also found to be present in other reported E2-degrading sphingomonads, indicating the ubiquity of the E2 metabolism in the e...

Mechanism of resveratrol in protecting ovary in poor ovarian response mice by regulating Hippo signaling pathway
In conclusion, Res effectively inhibits ovarian cell apoptosis in mice and improves ovarian responsiveness. Its mechanism may be related to the regulation of key molecules in the Hippo pathway.PMID:38621878 | DOI:10.19540/j.cnki.cjcmm.20230915.401 (Source: Cell Research)

Description of Solvent-Extractable Chemicals in Thermal Receipts and Toxicological Assessment of Bisphenol S and Diphenyl Sulfone
Bull Environ Contam Toxicol. 2024 Apr 14;112(4):63. doi: 10.1007/s00128-024-03871-4.ABSTRACTResearch on thermal receipts has previously focused on the toxic effects of dermal exposure from the most publicized developers (e.g., bisphenol A (BPA) and bisphenol S (BPS)), while no studies have reported on the other solvent-extractable compounds therein. Diphenyl sulfone (DPS) is a sensitizer added to thermal receipts, but little is known about DPS concentrations in receipts or potential toxicity. Here, we quantified BPA, BPS, and DPS concentrations and tentatively identified the solvent-extractable compounds of thermal receipt...

The combined effects of preservative chemicals in consumer products: an analysis using embryonic and adult zebrafish
In this study, zebrafish embryos were exposed to BIT, PP, and mixtures of both for 96 h to investigate the effects on growth hormone (GH), insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), and the transcription of 19 genes related to the GH/IGFs axis. Concentrations of BIT and PP were measured in the whole body of larvae. Zebrafish pairs were also exposed to BIT, PP, and mixtures for 21 d to evaluate the effects on sex hormones, histology in gonad, and transcription of 22 genes related to the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonad axis and vitellogenin. The mixtures had potentiation effects on development, reproduction, hormones, and gene trans...

The effect of tamoxifen on estradiol, SHBG, IGF-1, and CRP in women with breast cancer or at risk of developing breast cancer: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
CONCLUSION: Tamoxifen administration seems to increase estradiol and SHBG levels and reduce CRP and IGF-1 levels in women with breast cancer or at risk of developing breast cancer. Further studies are needed to determine whether these changes have any clinical relevance.PMID:38608792 | DOI:10.1016/j.exger.2024.112431 (Source: Experimental Gerontology)

NADPH OXIDASE-GENERATED REACTIVE OXYGEN SPECIES ARE INVOLVED IN ESTRADIOL 17 ß-d-GLUCURONIDE-INDUCED CHOLESTASIS
Biochimie. 2024 Apr 10:S0300-9084(24)00077-4. doi: 10.1016/j.biochi.2024.04.002. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe endogenous metabolite of estradiol, estradiol 17β-D-glucuronide (E17G), is considered the main responsible of the intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy. E17G alters the activity of canalicular transporters through a signaling pathway-dependent cellular internalization, phenomenon that was attributed to oxidative stress in different cholestatic conditions. However, there are no reports involving oxidative stress in E17G-induced cholestasis, representing this the aim of our work. Using polarized hepatocyte cult...

Estradiol-17 β and bisphenol A affect growth and mineralization in early life stages of seabass
Comp Biochem Physiol C Toxicol Pharmacol. 2024 Apr 10:109921. doi: 10.1016/j.cbpc.2024.109921. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNatural and synthetic estrogens are contaminants present in aquatic ecosystems. They can have significant consequences on the estrogen-sensitive functions of organisms, including skeletal development and growth of vertebrate larvae. Synthetic polyphenols represent a group of environmental xenoestrogens capable of binding the receptors for the natural hormone estradiol-17β (E2). To better understand how (xeno-)estrogens can affect the skeleton in fish species with high ecological and commercial inter...
