In vitro effects of two environmental toxicants, beauvericin and glyphosate in Roundup, on cell numbers and steroidogenesis of bovine ovarian cells
In conclusion, the present study demonstrates that toxicological effects of beauvericin and glyphosate in Roundup formulation are observed in a newly developed ovarian cell model system and further confirms that both glyphosate and beauvericin may have the potential to impair reproductive functio n in cattle. Endocrine-disrupting chemical concentrations in follicular fluid and follicular reproductive hormone levels
ConclusionHigher concentrations of several phthalate metabolites, present among others in personal care products, were associated with increased E2 levels in FF. The results emphasize the need to further investigate the mechanisms of action of such EDCs on hormonal cyclicity and fertility in women. (Source: Journal of Assisted Reproduction and Genetics)

Effect of occupational exposure to vat-textile dyes on follicular and luteal hormones in female dye workers in Abeokuta, Nigeria
Conclusion: Occupational exposure to Vat dye among female dyers in Abeokuta is associated with some sex hormone disruptionwhich appears to be age and duration of exposure-related.Keywords: Follicular phase; luteal phase; dye workers; sex hormone; premenopausal. (Source: African Health Sciences)

Serum sex hormones correlate with pathological features of papillary thyroid cancer
ConclusionWe observed that serum sex hormones correlate with the pathological features of PTC in male patients, for the first time in a clinical study. High serum estrogens may be a risk factor for PTC, while androgens are the opposite. This somewhat corroborates previous research and provides new variables for future PTC prediction models. Estradiol Protects Against Pain-Facilitated Fentanyl Use Via Suppression of Opioid-Evoked Dopamine Activity in Males
Pain affects over 50% of US adults. Opioids are potent analgesics used to treat pain symptoms but are highly prone to abuse, creating a major dilemma for public health. Evidence suggests that the risk for opioid misuse under conditions of pain may vary based on gender/sex, but the biological basis of this relationship is unclear. Here, we characterize the effects of pain on fentanyl use and decipher its underlying mechanisms within mesolimbic dopamine reward circuitry, providing evidence for regulation by ovarian hormones. Mast Cells and Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Contribute to Pelvic Tactile Allodynia in a Non-invasive Mouse Model of Endometriosis
Endometriosis (EM) impacts ~4 million women in the US. EM lesions are infiltrated with mast cells (MCs) and have elevated vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). To test the hypothesis that MC and VEGF drive endometriosis-associated pelvic pain, we assessed therapeutic agents on pelvic tactile allodynia in a mouse model of EM. C57BL/6J donor mice (6-weeks old) received a subcutaneous injection of estradiol benzoate (10 µg), and 4 days later, each uterine horn was excised and placed in Hank’s Balanced Salt Solution (HBSS) and minced. Follicle-Stimulating Hormone and Diabetes in Postmenopausal Women: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: The available data indicated an indirect association between FSH levels and glucose disturbances among postmenopausal women; notwithstanding heterogeneity among included studies, and the complexity of various influential factors needs to be considered. Further efforts should be made to clarify the underlying mechanisms.PMID:38553980 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgae198 (Source: The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism)
