Contract negotiations: everything but salary
working through some negotiations on contracts. What are some things that should be negotiated into contracts other than salary? Understand insurance, time off, cme etc. but what are some other non common ancillary things you’ve found beneficial to contracts? Any other general tips on negotiation? Salary Expectations - Western WA
For a new graduate working at a small animal GP in western WA (think Tacoma/Olympia area) what yearly salary should I be expecting? I was looking at some of the new grad salary calculators (I think by SAVMA?) but it didn't seem to be the most up-to-date. Anything I should look into negotiating into a contract? I definitely want to negotiate relocation expenses. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Contract Ghosting
Is it fairly uncommon for potential academic group employers to completely ghost after sending over a contract? I wonder if us mid-senior career folk are at a career disadvantage because we know what to question in employment contracts… and it makes some potential employers insecure. Or maybe the majority candidates sign without reviewing contract nitty gritty so they don’t want “headaches.” Oh hey, restrictive covenants on part time? No thanks Oh hey, what’s your actual compensation... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

National Guard -- > Med School
Hello, I am enlisted in the Army National Guard, 3 years into a 6-year contract. I am planning on applying to med school this upcoming year. Has anyone on here applied and started med school while being enlisted in the National Guard? Was it easy to get put into med student/non-deployable status? I am going to contact my unit and see if I can be moved to this status, but I'm MOS-qualified as a helicopter mechanic, so I'm not sure they'd move me out of this MOS before my contract is up... Transfer during/after PGY2
Hi everyone, I've posted earlier about my situation. In summery, I'm PGY1 categorical IM resident with a very difficult PD who's also not very involved with the residents. I would like to switch to neurology but this will result in retaliation, harmful recommendations, non-renwal of contract, disciplinary actions for very subjective reasons "unprofessional, unteachable, disrespectful...etc" Is it possible to transfer (or start over) during PGY2? This way my program can't deny me PGY1... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

OMFS - Anyone worked for ClearChoice?
Hi all, Anyone have any experience or feedback on ClearChoice? I signed a contract with a private practice group with track to partnership in 2 years, very flexible in terms of scope, whatever you want to do. Recently heard about ClearChoice from a friend, they advertise working 4 mornings a week with twice as much pay compared to private practice (4.5 days). Please shed some lights on this if you can. If it's such an amazing deal, why aren't people taking on such jobs? Thank you. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Dental Contract Signing
Hello all, I am getting some contract offers and I’m finishing up Dental School now and I am wondering what does it mean to sign these contracts? I have some of the DSO’s giving an offer and putting an expiration date of like 10 days to sign? One in particular is Aspen and they said I would need to sign to go out for a site visit and if I don’t like it I can back out. Is that true? I was wondering what are the implications of signing the dental contract and what were to happen if you were... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Paying pathologists as a W2 vs. 1099
I’ve heard of some groups, not just in Pathology, pay their pathologists on a 1099. What are the pros and cons of this for the employee pathologist? As a 1099, an employer can more easily fire a pathologist right vs if they were on a W2? With a 1099, the employer saves a good chunk of money as they don’t have to pay taxes for their employee. Anything else should one know before signing a contract where you will be a 1099? If you are in a practice and you function just like an employee... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Assisted living contracts
Does anyone have any information or guidance on WHAT contracts or language to have in place when contracting with an assisted living/nursing home as a mobile podiatrist? I have been doing this awhile (side job), but only as a contractor. I have realized I have been giving away a HUGE percentage by not securing these contracts on my own. The problem is that I am missing the piece of knowledge of: 1. Do I give them a general ABN? 2. A contract that makes that details the primary care... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Indemnification clause: please help..
Indemnification clause: what are your thoughts on having this in a contract? My understanding is that it puts me at huge risk for liability and malpractice does not typically cover this. How would I get it removed? If they refuse, is it worth the risk signing? Also, any other ways to protect self if one is included in a signed contract?
