Private Equity, Sprawling AMC health Systems - Walls closing in on Physicians?
I was talking to a family friend who was saying that they could not recruit specialists to their group so had to sell their practice to private equity. Seeing also the hyper-concentration of large healthcare groups. For example in my area, UPenn and Jefferson have bought almost all the hospitals in the Delaware valley and dominate the market. Contracts typically have aggressive noncompete clauses like 20-25 miles crossing state lines. The contracts may look good to first blush for a... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Resigned yesterday need PGY 1 FM position
Hi friends, I have been let go from my residency yesterday. Completed 10+ months. Reason: medical knowledge deficiency. Red Flags: - 2 leaves (1st year: 2 month leave s/p giving birth) (2nd year: 4 month leave personal/family matters) - Did not pass level 3 first try. Retook 1 month later, passed with good margin. - Below average ITE scores, but improved second year. I have completed 6+ months of hospital medicine, none of which counted, because I was not offered a second year contract... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Non competes
Has anybody successfully removed a non-compete/restrictive covenant from their contract? If so, how? This is the only thing I want out of my contract but everywhere has it and refuse to take it out (Source: Student Doctor Network)

At risk for non-renewel via ACGME...need advice and guidance...
Hi there, Here is the short and dirty: I took my COMLEX Level 3 in March during PGY-2 year and the score will be released to me May 18th. Most take it during PGY-1, but I was allowed to take it during PGY-2, however, I delayed it since I wasn't ready initially beginning of PGY-2 year. My program told me that per ACGME I have to have a passing score to move onto PGY-3. If it is a failure, they won't renew my contract. What options do I have afterwards? My PD had told me to take it during... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

medical director comp reduction
I'm facing a reduction in hourly compensation for medical director time. I was at $200/hour for several years, but hospital says market rate is actually $135 so sent new contract with lower rate. I'm at the point where I don't feel it's worth continuing for this amount, and I'd rather give up the headache, have my off time and evenings free from the calls to manage various issues that arise. However, I was curious if people could weigh in on their administrative time rates, hoping to get a... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Remote blood pressure monitoring
I am an independent primary care internist. I would like to know more about setting up remote BP monitoring for my practice. Also, are there third party companies that contract with physicians to do this for them (outside of my patient panel). Would love to hear your experiences and setup tips! Thank you. Contract change
Maybe someone can help me out here. So I’ve been at my job for 4.5 years. I work at a small hospital in a small rural town in Iowa. This is my first job out of residency, so still wet behind the ears when it comes to contracts and compensation. So during CoVid our competitor bought the hospital where I work and combined the two campuses to form a “Sole Hospital“ in doing so they switched to a completely different compensation model than when I started. We are going from a base salary plus... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is this offer too good to be true?
I have recently sealed the deal with my own first attending contract. As we are finalizing for my wife`s attending contract negotiations as well, she received an offer from another hospital which puzzled us and wanted to share here. This hospital is an hour away from the one I signed with so it won`t be convenient but I felt it was too good to refuse so here we go; State Hospital with academic affiliation Inpatient Adolescent Residential Census : 12 follow ups. 1-2 new... DRG disbursement info
I posted this earlier but I’ll try it here: Hi there, I’m a plastic and reconstructive surgeon and given the complexity and volume of surgery I have been bringing to a hospital - I find myself wanting to bring a business plan to the hospital about my compensation. How can I discover the DRG disbursements for the patients I am caring for? I know the hospital tried to avoid using these value’s to negotiate contracts and often reverts to MGMA data but I think it’s very clear that would make me... Multiple dea licenses in the same state?
Trying to get clarification here. I currently have a dea number but do not administer or dispense meds at my private practice thus you can have multiple locations or sites without a separate dea for each per the rules. The telepsych place I contract at is now dispensing sublucade and is saying my dea must have this address as the default location for my dea. Am I able to do this without effecting my private office?
