Hospital Incentive Bonuses
What are others’ experiences with incentive bonus requirements? I’ve spoken with a few other groups I know of about having a quarterly incentive bonus in the anesthesia group contract with the hospital. They’ve had variations from the group hitting easily obtainable units/qtr to obtaining easy QI goals like PONV treatment or patient temperature mitigation strategies. Our group has a quarterly incentive to produce a pre approved quality improvement project with data and packet submission or... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Private practice partnership track associate LOI
I just received a LOI for a private practice partnership track position that seems like an ideal fit professionally and personally. I plan to have a lawyer review everything but just wanted to get some other feedback as I'm not as familiar with these sorts of contracts as with academic contracts. The terms: associate compensation $280k + CME + malpractice, licensing, etc + $10k relocation bonus, 2 years to shareholder, $8k buy-in, shareholder compensation incremental over 3 years to full... Vesting period tail coverage?
Hospitalist here. Looking to sign with a multi specialty group. Contract states tail coverage has a vesting period of 6 years. In other words, if I leave for ANY reason before year 6, I would have to pay for my own tail coverage. Deal breaker or no? My goal is to have them drop the waiting period. But if that is not possible, what is a reasonable number of years? All of my prior jobs have provided tail without any required duration of employment with them. There is a small sign on bonus... NAPA and Orange County, CA
Uh oh. Things seem to be getting even worse for anesthesiologists in Orange County, California. NAPA has reportedly picked up the pieces of three contracts that Envision either lost or is giving up. For the sake of those anesthesiologists, I hope they don't have to answer to the Chief Swindler, WT, who works at the a not-quite-a-hospital Orange (Orange Global, it might still be calling itself). It's only a rumor at this point, but it's terrible. If your site is so bad that NAPA is... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Breaking a Contract
Hello all, Getting ready to start my 3rd year of residency and unsure what to do. I signed a contract with TH at the end of my 1st year and have been receiving a stipend as a sign-on. The contract is near family back home but is HCA. There is another hospital equally close to family that I wanted from the start but had no job availability anytime I have reached out in the past but now they are saying they want to extend an interview. They are W2, non-profit, fully scribed amongst other... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Received an insurance fee schedule, it was much worse than expected! (is this normal?)
Hi, everyone! I'm transitioning to private practice and working on getting credentialed with a couple of the "good" insurances from my area. With one of the large insurance companies, it has been going very well. However, I just received a contract/fee schedule from another insurer. Here were their approximate rates for a level 5 new intake (99205): Physician: ~$160 NP/PA: ~$190 MSW: slightly higher(?!) than the physician rate Any idea what is going on? I know other psychiatrists get paid... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Sale to Private Equity, will I lose bonus?
1 year into practice and received the dreaded news that the current owner is selling to PE. Per my contract, my productivity bonus based on collections does not get distributed until after the new year. If I leave the practice, is there a chance I could lose what I’m entitled to? Certainly will consult with an attorney on the matter. I made sure that current contract states termination for “good cause/reason” will result in pro-rated pay of bonus, but sale of practice isn’t specifically... AAEM ’s Prez on Envision bankruptcy
Just got this email Dear Dr. xxxxxxxxxx Today’s news that private equity-backed, physician-staffing company Envision Healthcare initiated a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing underscores the risks of Contract Management Group (CMG) influence in emergency departments. Envision’s bankruptcy filing does not, however, change the status of our lawsuit against the company looking to prohibit it from taking over the emergency department contract at Placentia Linda Hospital, part of the Tenet system... Doing locums work directly?
I've done some locums work lately, and although the pay is good, more than once I've had the contract the temp agency has with the clients get leaked to me. And... Well, the mark ups are insane. 70% plus in one case. Which makes me wonder... Why on earth should these (often useless) middlemen make so much? Of course if I did it on my own there would be additional expenses -- additional insurances, probably a lawyer to help me with contracts, additional accounting etc. Also, I know that... Lab animal opportunities
Hello... I know some people may look for how to gain lab animal research opportunities and figured I could lend a possible hand. I am also working my way towards veterinary school and I currently work as a facility manager in Lab animal research. I have a few open positions on my contract and if people are interested in gaining some experience its a good way to get an idea of how the field is. I work in Rockville, Maryland, but our company has positions all over the place. Just look up... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Buying Into a Practice
I am planning to buy into a practice in August once my associate contract expires. The doc that's retired is working on a proposal for sale of his stock. This is my first time treading these waters. What are some essential things to know/do for this situation? I will most likely be getting a loan to buy into the practice, will I need to form an LLC and apply for an SBA loan afterward? Or is there a better way to do this? Will I need to pay to get another appraisal done on my own, or... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

My practice and 3140 sq ft office condo FOR SALE
South Florida is popping and I had an unsolicited offer on the office condo itself for $1 million so I might as well throw this out there for new grads. The office condo is almost new and is owned by me alone, and it is in the only medical arts building in the area 20” south of Miami. It is next to the hospital so you could be in the doctor's lounge in three minutes. Persuade me to retire. You can take over a turnkey office with all patient’s, staff, contracts, a revenue generating tenant... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

New Grad Salary and Contract
Hi! I was just offered a job at a GP clinic in Tampa, Florida and was hoping to get some advice on what I should be expecting for salary as a new grad, I know that the salary has increased over the last few years but unsure of exact numbers. Also if there is anything that I should be negotiating into my contract. (Source: Student Doctor Network)
