How necessary is having a contract lawyer review before signing?
see title. Also if you guys went that route, what were you guys paying for a lawyer to do contract review? Im seeing anywhere from 500 to 2,000. I had a job offer today and they sent over the contract, but its fairly complex, 23 pages of all kinds of stipulations, lol (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Advice for a newly minted neurohospitalist …
Happy new year all! Hoping to seek some advice from everyone out there. In my first gig outside of residency and so far it has generally been a good experience. (It’s the a private group who contracts with the hospital). I like the people I work with and surprisingly see a nice variety of pathology. I have one year left on my initial contract. However, the schedule right now is essentially 12 on 2 off. I’m doing fine now but am worried about burnout in the future. In addition we are in the... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Locums contract language tip(s)
For the new and old alike. This from a friend (of a friend). He/she works a few days a week and is at a similar point in career to myself. Their reply to a desperate locums recruiter follows: "Thank you kindly for reaching out. I currently work 3-4 days a week leaving one day available consistently and a second day occasionally. The rate I charge for a weekday from 6:30-3p is $500/hr. I would be willing to consider XYZ Medical Center only and no OB. My rates change outside of the... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

QPA and the No Surprises Act
I am just wondering how other anesthesiologists are feeling about the QPA being, basically, the sole deciding factor for out of network reimbursement. Overtime this QPA, which is supposed to be the 50% median in network rate, will drop as there is 0 incentive for the insurers to renew your contract at high rates because if they don't, well you can get a MAX reimbursement of the 50% median in network rate. As contracts get cancelled or lower that QPA goes lower and lower. Secondly, there... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

MMGA Nonanesthesia Pain provider compensation negotiation
Advice please: In contract re-negotiations with large medical group: Management wants to categorize the interventional physiatrists in the Physiatry MMGA category instead of the Nonanesthesiaain provider category. All the interventionalists are fellowship-trained in spine procedures and their practices are mainly interventional. Any tips/suggestions for “proving” one’s justification into the higher compensated category? What arguments- besides we are doing everything the anesthesiology... Timeline between graduation & first job
Hi all! I'm a current 4th year and in the process of signing a contract for my first job. I'm hoping to start very shortly after graduation, but am now a bit worried about the timeline between graduation, actually receiving my license, and obtaining my DEA & anything else needed before practice. I had initially talked to my future employer about a start date ~1.5 weeks after graduation. Does anyone (specifically looking for Massachusetts info) have experience with how long it took between... Hospital drops contract, AMC sues hospital, Anesthesiologists sue AMC
Have we talked about this one yet? Renown hospital in Reno gives 90 days to NAPA for not having enough staffing. NAPA sues Hospital. Anesthesiologists sue NAPA to get out of non-competes which are for the hospital, +25 miles for 2 years. If the non-competes are ruled non-enforceable then there's no longer leverage for the AMCs to threaten to take all their workers... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Private Practice with support from local hospital
Currently doing an orthopedic fellowship and plan to go start a solo private practice (not hospital employee) after I am done with training. A community hospital is willing to financially support my practice and give me an income guarantee my first year to help me get going, as long as I stay in the community for 4 years. Has anyone gone through with this and willing to share their experience? What are things I should know before signing the contract? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Contract Question - PTO in hours instead of days

New Job: Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous
Upcoming graduate from a brand name program. Had an interesting offer: An uber elite private community wants a pain doctor. They have full clinic with staff and procedural space ready to go. They'll pay 80% MGMA. No production or RVU expectations. Very light schedule. Unclear incentive / benefit structure (no contract in hand). I daydream about doing it for 10 years to build my retirement war chest. On the other hand, it's so non-traditional. Would you consider it? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Prison Job - Worth the Risks?
So I've been talking to a recruiter and I've been told about a prison job in a state prison system. It will be locums, 1099. No benefits. 2 weeks off a year unpaid. No sick time. Luckily I have a spouse who gets healthcare and full benefits for us through her non-medical job. BUT, the pay is high. 4x10s seeing 10-15 patients a day, 12 month contract with option to renew, $335/hr. Works out to 670k a year. I would completely be able to pay off my 300k in student loans in one year. I'm sure... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
