Locum questions , for a novice Locum
So I am going to leave my W2 job which has absolutely no benefits and start per diem. I have been in contact with a Locum agency and just wanted an idea of how this works as I am new to this. Am I tied to this agency for the length of my contract with a specific hospital? Is there a way to leave the Locum agency at some point and negotiate directly with the hospital? What rates do you all think are reasonable for NYC? The rate listed was $275/hr which I was happy with , I tried to... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

I'm quitting.. do I really need to finish the 90 day notice?
Signing onto a new job. They want me to start ASAP. My current contract requires a 90 day notice. I'm already credentialed and ready to go at new spot for much more $$$. Do I really need to finish the 90 day notice? What are the legal ramifications? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Questions about CMG transitions
Found out today that my current CMG is losing the contract and in 4 months the hospital will switch to another group. Any advice on transitioning between groups? Also as far as my contract does it essentially void? I am almost to the end of the first year of a 3 years contract. I did have a sign on so not sure what happens with that as well. Not sure if I should look to stay or move on. TH -> Apollo FWIW TIA (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Providing contract work and TMS at same location?
Trying to figure out the logistics of a scenario. Currently providing med management at a location where I am an hourly contractor. They have no desire for rTMS due to costs but are happy to "give" me an extra room if i were to buy a machine/hire staff/etc and provide services there for their patients who are heavily Medicaid who does cover it now in my state. I also have a 1 day a week PP in a different area so i am credentialed with all ins. except medicaid. Would I have to update my... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Considerations for inpatient work
I’m considering picking up inpatient per diem work. How are inpatient continuity issues avoided and addressed contractually? For example, avoiding: Another doctor's discharges dumped on me. Going to court that day for another doctor’s involuntary cert. Any other inpatient matters that could be problematic and should be addressed in the contract? Patient cap? New eval cap? Time of day when I no longer accept new admissions? Internist availability? Per diem rate vs RVU vs other... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Hca/fps buyout
Although we haven't been officially contacted, it seems as though there are strong interests by fps/hca to continue to expand their network. We anticipate them to not renew our contract sooner rather than later. I am wondering if anyone has any negotiation experience with these folks. My understanding is, they prefer to only negotiate 1 on 1 with pathologists for the purposes of "rehiring." Any experience? Hca sucks, for sure, and I'd probably exit if they said take it or leave it. I'm... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

USAP losing contracts
I am hearing that USAP in Texas is losing significant contracts. Specifically in Houston, Dallas and San Antonio. From some friends, they're stating it's simply due to them being understaffed and they elect not to renew contracts at certain sites to help consolidate. Curious if this is due to partners having now fulfilled their post-buyout obligation and retiring (definitely happening in San Antonio), or if its due to difficult time recruiting, although it seems there's just a nationwide... Remediation: A few questions from the "problematic resident."
Howdy y’all, PGY2 here from a 3-year academic shop. I was placed on an improvement plan in November which has now progressed forward to remediation despite working incredibly hard on the few random bits of feedback I was given. (FYI, we use the following progression Formal Plan > Remediation (inhibits progression to next year)> Probation > Expulsion/Failure to renew contract). I come to you for advice/to hear your experiences with remediating the deemed “difficult... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

My practice and 2300 sq ft office condo FOR SALE
South Florida is popping and I had an unsolicited offer on the office condo itself for $1 million so I might as well throw this out there for new grads. The office condo is almost new and is owned by me alone, and it is in the only medical arts building in the area 20” south of Miami. It is next to the hospital so you could be in the doctor's lounge in three minutes. Persuade me to retire. You can take over a turnkey office with all patient’s, staff, contracts, a revenue generating tenant... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What are the legal consequences of violating NRMP match?
I matched to an advanced specialty of my choice but also an IM prelim year. I am terrible with clinical medicine and the idea of intern year is stressing me out to the point that I am thinking of quitting altogether and pursuing a career outside of medicine before I sign my residency contract. I don't think I'm smart or organized enough to survive intern year and am worried about someone getting hurt because of a mistake I make. I know leaving now that would constitute a match violation... Negotiating with an academic pain group- all advice welcome!
I always wanted to go back to my home residency program to join the pain group. With recent departures in their pain group and two new neurosurgery spine attendings, I know they are quite interested in recruiting me and I feel certain that I can generate the department a lot of money. However, the contract offer was very underwhelming with regard to base salary (10%ile in my area), productivity bonus (they placed a ceiling on how much I can earn- a low ceiling), an expectation to work 5 days... Leave a job after 2 month for a higher paying job?
Recently got my license and , as I've heard happens, began quickly getting a few emails/messages from recruiters for other jobs. One in particular, and I know some people who work there and seem to like it there, reached out and encouraged me to apply. My current job, which I trained at years ago, recently started about 2 months ago and have in contract a pay bump of around 45% more than the "clinician" salary I was initially hired at. However, this other place (and a colleague who got... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
