Is John Pinto's private practice lecture series still accurate?
Came across this series from 2017, and was honestly surprised at some of the numbers he listed for mid career salaries, found in the "contract negotiation" video. John Pinto's Ophthalmology Business Management Series J. Pinto & Associates, Inc. John Pinto is the country's most-published author on the subject of ophthalmic practice management. Mr. Pinto's Business Management Seminar is posted on EyeRounds with the very kind permission of John Pinto who reserves all rights to these works. webeye.ophth.uiowa.edu ...

Type of Job to look for in a gap year?
So I just finished my 6 month contract as a data analyst and was not re-hired, and am looking to move back with family (much love to today's economy). So I will be moving states and can start fresh on all activities. So my biggest question is what job should I focus on to try to get next in my job hunt? I am looking to get a job as a Patient Care Assistant (PCA), Research Assistant, or a job which not many premeds tend to do (CS/data analyst jobs. Initially I was trying to pursue this field... Navigating job offer/sign on bonus
Long time lurker. Received a job offer that I’m planning to take. Very solid compensation with hospital employed group. Sign on bonus is 45K but for 3 years (!) Payback before 3 years is prorated. The length makes me cautious. Would you just sign contract and not spend the money until some amount of time like 6 months - year when you feel more comfortable that you’ll stay? Try to negotiate a lower term, say 2 years? Not take the bonus and try to negotiate a higher base compensation... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Failed child boards, now what?
I'm board certified for general psychiatry, but just got my results for child boards and failed. Not distraught, but not sure what this means practically for my career. I see child patients regularly. Frankly, I didn't take the test seriously. No excuses. I'm planning on taking it again next year. (any recommendations? I used BTB and Spiegel qbanks, and did well on them, but didn't find the real thing to be all that similar). My contract with insurers when I signed it required that I be... Accept or reapply
I have been accepted to DO school that I was initially excited about but after the interview felt very indifferent about. In fact I was not all that excited to receive an acceptance there which sounds bad. I have to pay the $1000 deposit by Dec. 14 to hold my acceptance and sign a contract. That contract is not binding until May 1st. I have been waitlisted at an MD school that I really like and have a few other interviews at other DO schools I like more. The way I see it I have three... Looking for USUHS Grad who was currently serving when entered USUHS.....Questions about Contract upon graduation
Wife has been accepted to USUHS, she has 14 yrs in Army and is still Active Duty. Rank is far above O-3, understand she will be O-1 with save pay to maintain her current base pay while attending, BUT we are wondering how it will work once she graduates? What will she be, an O-3? Will she lose pay? Confused and getting mixed messages from varying sources. Would appreciate any USUHS grad who had current service upon entering and was higher than O-3 upon entry, would like to know your... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Employment Questions
I want to learn a little more about things I should do before signing a job offer. Ideally, I would go over the contract with a lawyer and try to negotiate the contract. Realistically, I do not want to spend >$1,000 (guess) for attorney fees. Also, I want to know a little bit about how did you decide to choose one practice over the other. What about some suspicious signs you had? For example, having a zoom interview and then getting an offer doesn't raise a red flag? I was the one... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Early Contract
My home town is writing up a contract for me to sign on with them. Its a very generous offer, but I wanted to get some tips on what to make sure is included in the contract and if a lawyer is definitely needed to look over the contract. CMO says it should be done in the next couple of weeks. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

AP lab sold to Labcorp
The group I work for contracts with a local health system, who recently sold their AP labs (histo, cyto) to Labcorp. I am curious to see if anyone has seen a set up like this and what could be the implications for the pathologists moving forward? There hasn't been any changes to my contract with the group but I'm fresh out of training so less familiar with the business side of things. TIA. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is CVS ever worth accepting?
I have been a pharmacy manager for Kroger for a good while now. The store I work at now is a good 45 minutes from home. A CVS less than 20 minutes from home has offered me their pharmacy manager position. It amounts to about a $10 per hour raise (~$20k a year) more with a $10k sign on bonus and 2 year contract. I’ve heard bad things about CVS but only have experience with Kroger. I’m happy at the store I’m in now but the distance is far. Is it really that much worse at CVS that the money... I will definitely retake it April and hopefully if cleared abfm is saying my certification will be restored without delay. Any advice ? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
