Impact of quercetin in patients with myocardial infarction. A multicenter, randomized, open label pilot study
CONCLUSION: Our pilot study is the first to demonstrate novel insight into ischemia/reperfusion damage in STEMI patients. The addition of quercetin to standard STEMI therapy limits infarct size and prevents intramyocardial hemorrhage after the first anterior STEMI. Further research will be necessary to both validate and expand upon these findings.PMID:37567562 | DOI:10.1016/j.hjc.2023.08.004 (Source: Hellenic Journal of Cardiology)

Potential of Quercetin to Protect Cadmium Induced Cognitive Deficits in Rats by Modulating NMDA-R Mediated Downstream Signaling and PI3K/AKT —Nrf2/ARE Signaling Pathways in Hippocampus
AbstractExposure to cadmium, a heavy metal distributed in the environment is a cause of concern due to associated health effects in population around the world. Continuing with the leads demonstrating alterations in brain cholinergic signalling in cadmium induced cognitive deficits by us; the study is focussed to understand involvement of N-Methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDA-R) and its postsynaptic signalling and Nrf2-ARE pathways in hippocampus. Also, the protective potential of quercetin, a polyphenolic bioflavonoid, was assessed in cadmium induced alterations. Cadmium treatment (5 mg/kg, body weight, p.o., 28 days) de...

Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 5152: Hesperidin, a Bioflavonoid in Cancer Therapy: A Review for a Mechanism of Action through the Modulation of Cell Signaling Pathways
Anwar Cancer represents one of the most frequent causes of death in the world. The current therapeutic options, including radiation therapy and chemotherapy, have various adverse effects on patients’ health. In this vista, the bioactive ingredient of natural products plays a vital role in disease management via the inhibition and activation of biological processes such as oxidative stress, inflammation, and cell signaling molecules. Although natural products are not a substitute for medicine, they can be effective adjuvants or a type of supporting therapy. Hesperidin, a flavonoid commonly found in citrus ...

Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 4776: Morin Hydrate Encapsulation and Release from Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles for Melanoma Therapy
da-Silva Melanoma incidence, a type of skin cancer, has been increasing worldwide. There is a strong need to develop new therapeutic strategies to improve melanoma treatment. Morin is a bioflavonoid with the potential for use in the treatment of cancer, including melanoma. However, therapeutic applications of morin are restrained owing to its low aqueous solubility and limited bioavailability. This work investigates morin hydrate (MH) encapsulation in mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) to enhance morin bioavailability and consequently increase the antitumor effects in melanoma cells. Spheroidal MSNs with a mean siz...

Neuroprotective Efficacy of Fisetin Against VPA-Induced Autistic Neurobehavioral Alterations by Targeting Dysregulated Redox Homeostasis
AbstractAutism is a neurodevelopmental condition, and it's associated pathophysiology, viz., oxidative stress and altered cellular homeostasis, has been extensively intertwined with behavioral impairments. Therefore, targeting oxidative stress and redox cellular homeostasis could be beneficial in relieving autistic-like symptoms. For this purpose, we exam ined a library of nutraceutical compounds that led us to a bioflavonoid fisetin. Autism-like neurobehavior was induced by subjecting the pregnant rodents to valproic acid at the time of neural tube closure (GD12.5). In this novel study, fisetin was evaluated for its neu...
