Association of systemic inflammatory biomarkers with morphological characteristics of the coronary atherosclerotic plaque by intravascular optical coherence tomography.
Authors: Koganti S, Karanasos A, Regar E, Rakhit RD Abstract Despite significant advances in preventive, medical and interventional management, coronary artery disease remains the leading cause of death worldwide. We now know that in the majority of acute coronary syndromes, a thrombotic event is triggered either by the rupture or erosion of the so-called high-risk or 'vulnerable' plaque. However, accurately identifying the individual who is at significant risk of acute event remains the holy grail of preventive cardiology. To better stratify an individual's risk of developing and suffering a cardiovascular event, ...

Outbreak of SARS-CoV2: Pathogenesis of infection and cardiovascular involvement.
Authors: Amirfakhryan H, Safari F Abstract Since the new coronavirus SARS (SARS-CoV2) has emerged from china, the infection (COVID-19) has affected many countries and led to many deaths worldwide. Like SARS-CoV, ACE2 as a functional receptor for SARS-CoV2 is essential for virus to entry to the cell. ACE2 is a part of RAS which is expressed in several organs that opposes the AngII functions by converting Ang II to Ang (1-7), the one with vasodilation effects. The death rate of COVID-19 is estimated about 3.4%, however, some comorbid conditions like underlying cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and diabetes increa...
