Immune-infiltrated kidney organoid-on-chip model for assessing T cell bispecific antibodies
Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A. 2023 Aug 29;120(35):e2305322120. doi: 10.1073/pnas.2305322120. Epub 2023 Aug 21.ABSTRACTT cell bispecific antibodies (TCBs) are the focus of intense development for cancer immunotherapy. Recently, peptide-MHC (major histocompatibility complex)-targeted TCBs have emerged as a new class of biotherapeutics with improved specificity. These TCBs simultaneously bind to target peptides presented by the polymorphic, species-specific MHC encoded by the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) allele present on target cells and to the CD3 coreceptor expressed by human T lymphocytes. Unfortunately, traditional models f...

High cholesterol diet-induced testicular dysfunction in rats
CONCLUSIONS: Our results showed that a high-cholesterol diet adversely affected testosterone production and sperm progressive motility, possibly due to Leydig, Sertoli, and germ cell abnormalities.PMID:37596375 | DOI:10.1007/s42000-023-00472-4 (Source: Hormones)

CCNB1 is a novel prognostic biomarker and promotes proliferation, migration and invasion in Wilms tumor
Wilms tumour (WT) is a mixed type of embryonal tumour that usually occurs in early childhood. However, our knowledge of the pathogenesis or progression mechanism of WT is inadequate, and there is a scarcity of... (Source: BMC Medical Genomics)

Low risk of embryonic and other cancers in PIK3CA-related overgrowth spectrum: Impact on screening recommendations
Clin Genet. 2023 Aug 14. doi: 10.1111/cge.14410. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe PIK3CA-related overgrowth spectrum (PROS) encompasses various conditions caused by mosaic activating PIK3CA variants. PIK3CA somatic variants are also involved in various cancer types. Some generalized overgrowth syndromes are associated with an increased risk of Wilms tumor (WT). In PROS, abdominal ultrasound surveillance has been advocated to detect WT. We aimed to determine the risk of embryonic and other types of tumors in patients with PROS in order to evaluate surveillance relevance. We searched the clinical charts from 267 PROS patien...

Prophylactic bilateral nephrectomy and preemptive kidney transplantation for Denys –Drash syndrome prior to development of kidney failure
ConclusionWe performed prophylactic bilateral nephrectomy with KTX on a DDS patient who had not developed kidney failure or Wilms tumor by the age of 7  years. Although the risk of development of Wilms tumor in such a patient is unclear, this treatment may be an optimal approach for patients who are physically able to undergo KTX, considering the potentially lethal nature of Wilms tumor in CKD patients. Decoding the Possible Molecular Mechanisms in Pediatric Wilms Tumor and Rhabdoid Tumor of the Kidney through Machine Learning Approaches
Conclusion: The application of the machine learning methods could identify mRNA/miRNA patterns to discriminate WT from RT. The identified miRNAs/mRNAs panels could offer novel insights into the underlying molecular mechanisms that are responsible for the initiation and development of these cancers. They may provide further insight into the pathogenesis, prognosis, diagnosis, and molecular-targeted therapy in pediatric renal tumors.PMID:37548233 | DOI:10.1080/15513815.2023.2242979 (Source: Fetal and Pediatric Pathology)

Anthropometric Outcomes in Survivors of Pediatric Solid Tumors
Nutr Cancer. 2023 Aug 6:1-8. doi: 10.1080/01635581.2023.2242104. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNutritional status is an important aspect of childhood cancer, with a bearing on the disease and subsequent survivorship. We sought to evaluate the long-term anthropometric outcomes in a cohort of pediatric solid tumor survivors treated between 1994 and 2016. Anthropometry was noted at the time of presentation, after completion of therapy, and at the last follow-up. The z-scores for weight-for-age, height-for-age, and BMI-for-age were calculated using WHO growth charts for ages <5 years and the Indian Academy of Pediatrics gro...
