Comprehensive analysis of vitamin D3 impurities in oily drug products using supercritical fluid chromatography –mass spectrometry
This study presents the development of a method for detecting and quantifying seven impurities of vitamin D3 in oily drug products using supercritical fluid chromatography –mass spectrometry (SFC-MS). Targeted impurities include two esters of vitamin D3 and five non-esters including four that are isobaric to vitamin D3. Firstly, a screening study highlighted the Torus 1-AA column and acetonitrile modifier as adequate for the separation, followed by optimization of the SFC conditions. Secondly, make-up solvent composition and MS settings were optimized to reach high sensitivity. For both the separation and MS response, th...

The Association between the Expression of MicroRNA-4270 and MicroRNA-4441 with some Metabolic Factors in Iranian Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients
Iran J Allergy Asthma Immunol. 2023 Dec 28;22(6):536-550. doi: 10.18502/ijaai.v22i6.14643.ABSTRACTMicroRNAs (miRs) play a role in several diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The purpose of this study was to discover new microRNAs and investigate their involvement in RA, examining their connections with inflammation and metabolic markers. New microRNAs related to RA were predicted using Mirbase and TargetScan databases based on RA target genes. The relationships between miRNAs and targets were visualized with Cytoscape software. Real-time polymerase chain reaction confirmed detectable miRNAs and metabolic factors w...

Smooth muscle cell-specific MMP-3 deletion reduces osteogenic transformation and medial artery calcification
CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that MMP-3 expression in vascular SMCs is an important regulator of medial calcification and that targeting MMP-3 could provide a therapeutic strategy to reduce it and address its consequences in patients with PAD.PMID:38454645 | DOI:10.1093/cvr/cvae035 (Source: Cell Research)

Chitin nanocrystals/alginate complex for tuning stability, rheology and bioavailability of cholecalciferol in Pickering emulsions
Int J Biol Macromol. 2024 Mar 6:130671. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2024.130671. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn this paper we investigate polyelectrolyte complexes of sodium alginate (Alg) and chitin nanocrystals (ChNC). Formation, stability and transport properties of O/W sunflower oil emulsions stabilized by ChNC-Alg complex were studied using dynamic light scattering (DLS), laser Doppler electrophoresis, optical microscopy, potentiometric titration, rheology and simulated digestion. It has been established that during emulsions formation, the ChNC-Alg complex is rearranged at the interface and the formation of a two-layer...

Molecules, Vol. 29, Pages 1153: Vitamin D3 Bioaccessibility from Supplements and Foods—Gastric pH Effect Using a Static In Vitro Gastrointestinal Model Molecules doi: 10.3390/molecules29051153 Authors: Evangelia Pasidi Patroklos Vareltzis Vitamin D3 deficiency is a global phenomenon, which can be managed with supplementation and food fortification. However, vitamin D3 bioaccessibility may depend on factors such as matrix composition and interactions throughout the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. This research focused on the effect of different matrices on vitamin D3 content during digestion, as well as the...

A study to assess the relationship between vitamin D3 levels and the risk of acute exacerbation in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
Monaldi Arch Chest Dis. 2024 Mar 1. doi: 10.4081/monaldi.2024.2885. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is one of the top three causes of mortality worldwide. Vitamin D deficiency in COPD has been associated with poor lung function and decreased muscle power, which further increases the risk of exacerbations. The role of vitamin D in preventing acute exacerbations of COPD has conflicting results in the literature. Hence, we planned this study to assess the relationship between vitamin D3 levels and the risk of acute exacerbations among COPD patients in a tertiary care center in north ...

Network pharmacology analysis and clinical efficacy of the traditional Chinese medicine Bu-Shen-Jian-Pi. Part  3: Alleviation of hypoxia, muscle-wasting, and modulation of redox functions in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
CONCLUSION: BSJP treatment reduced the rate of progression of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis according to the ALS-SSITS and ALSFRS scores and significantly reduced the rate of deterioration in muscle function in the limbs of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis patients. The modes of action of BSJP in treating amyotrophic lateral sclerosis are probably diverse and multi targeted, some of which may involve regulation of serum vitamin D3 and alleviation of the impairments in liver and kidney function.PMID:38431830 | DOI:10.5414/CP204520 (Source: International Journal of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics)
